It has been a long time since I have published my daily skincare routine. That routine covers almost all aspects of the day, from morning, during the day, and how I wash my face in the shower. The only info that is missing is what I do at night right before bed. I am now publishing my nighttime skincare routine for oily skin as a companion to that other post. My t-zone gets very oily, but the rest of my face is normal, and I also struggle with acne and blemishes.
You will notice that a lot of this routine is all about using up the products that I have lying around. I am only committed to three of the products in this entire routine. For the rest, I simply use whatever I have on hand. I am also not committed to certain parts of this routine, such as using eye creams. If I have some, then great, if not, then I skip that part of the routine. The best way to apply skincare in general is from the lightest to the heaviest products, which you will see here.

Nighttime Skincare Routine for Oily Skin
1) Serum/acne medicine
To start this nighttime skincare routine for oily skin, you should always begin with clean and dry skin. At this point I have already showered and I am getting ready for bed. The first product to hit my face is always the Balance Me Congested Skin Serum. This is a staple in my routine because I believe it makes a difference with my acne. I only apply it to my trouble areas, and not to the entire face. If I have any other serums on hand I will apply those afterwards. Below the No 7 Lift and Luminate Triple Action Serum is pictured as one that I am currently trying to empty.
2) Eye cream
Second, if I have any eye creams on hand, then I will use them. I do not normally use eye creams in my routine. Here I have pictured Sunday Riley’s Auto Correct and No 7’s Lift and Luminate Triple Action Eye Cream. I pat eye creams into the under eye area with my ring fingers.
3) Serums/retinols
Third is when I apply my Sunday Riley serums. I alternate every other night between Good Genes and the A+ High Dose Retinoid Serum. I firmly believe that these products reduce my acne and blemishes with visible results. They are very expensive, but they are worth every penny, and I will continue to use them. Good Genes is great at exfoliating the skin and removing dead skin cells, while A+ promotes clearer skin.
4) Night cream or moisturizer
The fourth step is to apply either a moisturizer or a night cream. Again, I use whatever I have on hand. I am not someone that regularly uses night creams. If I have one on hand, then I will use it all up. Below the No 7 Lift and Luminate Triple Action Night Cream is pictured. Or, I will use whatever moisturizer that I have on hand. Usually, I am trying to burn through some sort of moisturizer sample, which prevents me from getting to use the actual moisturizer that I am committed to. Below is pictured Lorea’s Hydra Genius, and elf’s Superhydrate and + Glow Radiant Moisturizer. I find that, for me, moisturizers with a gel-like formula do the best job of controlling oil production.
5) Facial oil
The fifth step in my nighttime skincare routine for oily skin is actually to apply a facial oil. This might sound counterproductive, but applying oils and moisturizers to oily skin actually helps to reduce and control your natural oils. You should not turn into a greasy slice of salami by following this step. Currently, I am using whatever oils that I have on hand until I use them up, but I am not committed to a specific oil. Here I have pictured Sunday Riley’s Luna Retinol Night Sleeping Oil and elf’s Nourishing Facial Oil. I find that retinol products make a difference with my blemishes and acne as well.
6) Exfoliate lips and lip balm
The final step in my nighttime skincare routine for oily skin is not really a skincare step, but I do it as part of this routine. I have been religiously following this step for years and years, which has cured my chronic dry lips that I have had my entire life!
First, I exfoliate my lips with elf’s Lip Exfoliator in Brown Sugar. They have other exfoliators, but Brown Sugar is the best. The others have a formula that is too soft, which makes it melt away and otherwise get used up in a few short weeks, so you have to keep constantly rebuying. Brown Sugar is stiff and will last you a long time! You should rub the lipstick-shaped bullet over your lips in a circular motion, and then wipe the residue away with a tissue. I love this product because it is mess-free and you do not need to get your hands dirty. You can also use a potted perfectpout Lip Exfoliator from wet n wild here. Those work, too, but the experience is much more messy.
Next, I follow-up with a lip balm or some sort of lip mask. I am not committed to a specific one. I use whatever I have on hand. Below is pictured the wet n wild Sleeping Lip Mask and Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm.
Conclusion
We are at the end of my nighttime skincare routine for oily skin. I am by no means a skincare expert. I am only sharing the products that I use, the order that I apply them, and why I use them. This routine helps me keep my oil production, acne, and blemishes in check. I do not have issues with these products leaving residue on my pillow. In the morning I do wash my face off with micellar water so that I have a clean slate for my daytime skincare or for makeup application. Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.

It’s not as time consuming as one might think! If I wasn’t a blogger I probably would not have a nighttime routine still lol
I love this post! Your pictures look so good and I adore the pink marble backdrop! I want to try out the E.L.F. Lip scrub, I’ve never seen a scrub like that before, all the ones I have are in pots, and I feel you on how messy they can be,
I’ve recommend the elf lip scrub so many times here on the blog- it’s simply the best! Thank you!
