If you have never heard of the store called Ollies Bargain Outlet, they are a discount retailer that obtains products from store closures, overstocks, bankruptcies, discontinuations, and more. One day while wondering around the sales floor I find myself stumbling into a whole variety of Olay skincare products. What is shocking me the most is that all of the products are being sold for $1.99 – $5.99, while some of the regular prices are upwards of $30+! Needless to say, I am buying everything that I can find, as these prices are incredible! This presents a great opportunity for me to provide you all with a how to use Olay products step by step tutorial and review.
In order to make this post possible, I set all of my normal skincare products aside for the entire month of May 2020 to test these items. Although, some of these I started testing in April 2020. You really need to give a skincare product a 30 day trial to see how it performs, so I am fully ready to share not just my reviews, but this new Olay routine that I am adopting. Let’s get started.
Before I get into this how to use Olay products step by step review and tutorial, I want to share a shot of the products in their original packaging. I am really into all the gold and metallics! Everything is so pretty and inviting to use.
How to Use Olay Products Step by Step
I am starting this how to use Olay products step by step review and tutorial with some options to cleanse the skin.
1) Cleanse
Olay Total Effects Cleansing Whip Polishing Creme Cleanser
Claims: Preps the skin to better absorb moisturizer. Hydrates and deeply cleanses without over-dying the skin.
Directions: Wet your face and your hands, then later the product up. Massage the product all over the face and rinse.
My review: This cleanser is a lightweight whip that foams up pretty well. You can feel a mild grit in the whip that ever so slightly exfoliates the skin. I apply it in the shower. I believe that it does its job of cleansing the skin, nothing more, nothing less. Personally, I need a cleanser that targets breakouts and acne, but this is fine for a general cleanser.

Olay Daily Facials Nourishing Clean Shea Butter
Claims: Removes dirt, oil, makeup, and also acts as a scrub, toner, mask, and cleanser.
Directions: Wet the cloth and rub it into a later. After wiping the face down, rinse the lather off of the wipe and wipe the face again for a final rinse.
My review: I am no stranger to these cloths. After using a sample cloth as a makeup remover, I know these burn the crap out of my eyes, and I did vow to never buy them again, but here we are. I prefer to use these to generally clean the skin, after my makeup has been removed. The claims are definitely far fetched, as there is no way that these wipes can truly give you the benefits of a mask or toner. It does bother me that these are recommended for makeup removal. I would have to use them on the face only, and then use a separate remover on my eyes. There should be no reason to use multiple products. If you think these will have a place in your routine, then go for them.

2) Mask
Olay Masks Clay Stick Pore Detox Black Charcoal
Claims: Draws out impurities while reducing the appearance of pores and softening the skin.
Directions: Apply the mask to clean, dry skin. Allow it to dry for about 10 minutes, then rinse.
My review: I am obsessed with the concept of a clay mask stick! There is zero mess with these and they glide right over the skin easily. I love how they dry within five to 10 minutes, and they truly are clay. I cannot prove that this particular stick draw out impurities, and my pores do not look smaller. But, these do not dry my skin out. Ultimately, I wish that I can report a reduction in acne with this stick, but I do not see much difference.

Olay Masks Clay Stick Shine Control
Claims: Tea tree traps oil and impurities to reduce shine while leaving the skin visibly balanced. It also contains kaolin clay.
Directions: Apply the mask to clean, dry skin. Allow it to dry for about 10 minutes, then rinse.
My review: This stick is a bonus because my family gifted it to me after I shot the photos for this post! In addition to the above review on the Pore Detox stick, I want to say a few works on the Shine Control stick. I am blessed to say that I do not get that shiny on my oily areas, but with that being said, I cannot report much shine control. This stick is better tested by someone who does struggle with excess shine. I apply this stick with the mindset that it is a general, clay mask. Again, I see no results with my acne. Overall, these sticks impress me with their mess-free application and fast dry properties.

3) Tone
Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Super Essence Water
Claims: Preps skin to improve absorption, hydration, and firmness.
Directions: After cleansing, apply three to four drops into the palm of your hand, rub your hands together, and then press the product into your face and neck until it is absorbed.
My review: This is another bonus product that I found after photographing the products. I cannot prove that this essence water does help with the absorption of moisturizer, but it does leave the skin feeling smoothed out and prepped. I get a gentle glow immediately following the use of this essence water, and I find that it does hydrate the skin without any residue. Ultimately, I treat this as a toner water, and I do apply it directly with my hands. For the most part, it works, and I think it is a suitable toner water. This product can be layered under my makeup and it does not harm anything.
Rating: ★★★★★
4) Serum
Olay Serums Pressed Serum Sticks: Refreshing (pink), Cooling (green), and Brightening (white)
Claims: These should hydrate the skin, as well as provide the individual benefits of refreshing, cooling, or brightening.
Directions: Glide over your face and neck, and then press the product into your skin.
My review: These serum sticks glide right over the skin without tugging, and they absorb into the skin quickly as you press the product into the skin. The concept of a ‘pressed serum’ is intriguing in and of itself. My favorite stick is the Brightening one because I do see a gentle glow and brightening effect after using it. The Refreshing and Cooling stick do not provide any benefits. They might as well be the same because there are no differences between them when you use them. I would expect my skin to feel cool and calm after using them, but literally, they do nothing. I can layer these under my makeup and they do not harm anything.

5) Moisturize & micellar water
Olay Sensitive Hungarian Water Essence Calming Facial Moisturizer
Claims: Calms stressed, dry skin.
Directions: Apply to clean face and neck.
My review: I can only wear this moisturizer on days when I am not wearing makeup, as the formula does not agree with any makeup primer that I have tried. Once primer hits it, it pills up horribly, giving you an effect that looks like your skin is peeling off. This is typical behavior when you try to layer water-based products with silicone-based products, but this moisturizer does not seem to like anything. Otherwise, it is soothing and keeps my skin moisturized all day. Some of my oils do break through, but nothing terrible. My skin responds the best to moisturizers with gel formulas, and this one is a white cream.
Rating: ★★★☆☆
Olay Sensitive Hungarian Water Essence Calming Cleansing Water
Claims: Removes makeup while calming dry, stressed skin.
Directions: Use a cotton round to cleanse the skin.
My review: This is a perfectly good micellar water that does its job. I am always impressed when micellar waters do not burn my sensitive eyes. As long as I am careful around the eye area, I really do not need to worry about burning. I only dock it one star because my all-time favorite micellar water actually hydrates my skin like a moisturizer does, but this one does not.

6) Mist
I am ending this how to use Olay products step by step tutorial and review with a facial mist.
Olay Cooling Mist
Claims: Absorbs quickly into the skin and can refresh your makeup. Leaves the skin feeling fresh and cool.
Directions: Apply before moisturizer, after makeup application, or anytime for a quick refresh. Hold the nozzle five to 10 inches from the skin when spraying.
My review: The raving part of my review has to do with the spray nozzle. I try a lot of spray products, but this nozzle has the finest mist that I have ever encountered. It feels like you are spraying nothing on your face, as if you not even getting wet, but you are. When I finally use it up, I want to save the bottle and refill it with a makeup setting spray. But, I am disappointed by the formula itself. My skin feels no different after using it, as I was expecting to feel cool and refreshed. It is like spraying nothing on your face.
Rating: ★★☆☆☆
Conclusion
In summary of how to use Olay products step by step, you can build a solid routine with all of these products. This particular routine supports skin that naturally glows and is moisturized and supple. If you have specific needs like I do with acne or blemishes, these products do not directly target those needs, so I would incorporate your favorite products into this routine. So far, I am loving the essence water, masks, and cleanser the most. I need to try more Olay in the future, as this is my first real attempt at exploring the brand. Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.

Milk Makeup introduced me to stick masks and since then I’m really loving them, it’s so easy and mess-free! I’m interested in trying these Olay sticks as well.
