Not sure what to pick up from the wet n wild Chameleon Chrome collection? I have everything and I am doing a deep dive review complete with swatches, a makeup look, and much more. You will not get these details anywhere else.

Details

In what is now typical wet n wild fashion, this collection is dropping all over the place without warning. The official release date for Amazon and wet n wild’s website is January 13. The products appeared in Walgreens and CVS, and well as online and in stores at Walmart at random with no release date. You might find the products saying “temporarily out of stock on Amazon” but be patient and they should come around.

If you are shopping in Walmart you will find the items right on the permanent display. Where as, other stores have them in a small shelf display. This leaves us to wonder if the collection is limited edtion, or part of the new core line.

The size of this collection is rather small, as compared to what we are used to from the brand, at nine items. I want to make note that I found a third highlighter on Amazon in pink packaging that is not avaialble. This highlighter is no where to be seen on any of the retailers. I have added a placeholder here for it, and I will update when it becomes available.

Chameleon Chrome Highlighter

There is no overspray on this highlighter – it really is that pretty! The tones here are very icy, with a blue and a green tone to them (and I expect Aurora Glaze to have a pink tone). They are super glittery, so keep that in mind if that is not your thing. You can build them up to be super striking, and the formula is soft. I am not noticing any emphasizing of texture. I cannot say these are duo chrome, more metallic flare than anything.

Claims: This highlighter contains light-reflective pigments that shift causing unique highlight transformations. It should have a liquid-to-baked texture to seamlessly blend into the skin. It can be built to your desired intensity, but will always be weightless.

Chameleon Chrome Lip Foil

While the term “lip foil” comes across as a new concept, these are actually highly pigmented lip glosses. Celestial Dance is full coverage in one swipe, while Halo’s Way is a bad bit more sheer. This formula is super shiny while not being heavy or sticky. You will need to re-apply as needed. Celestial Dance will really give you that oil slick look to be duo chrome, but Halo’s Way is more of a glitter blast. Even when worn with lip liner, they will bleed and feather on the lower lip.

Be careful when you open the product! A small chunk tends to fly off the applicator and manages to find your clothing like a heat seeking missile.

Claims: This lip color has light-reflecting pigments that shift in the light. They will make a bold statement! They feature full, multi-dimensional coverage with a non-sticky formula that stays in place.

Chameleon Chrome Eyeshadow Foil in Matrix Moves

The picture on the package is highly deceptive. It makes you think this is a full coverage liquid or paint. It is actually metallic foil flakes. I recommend applying it using a flat eyeshadow brush in patting motions, as it will get stuck to your finger. Swatching this really evidences how it sticks more to your finger than where you want to apply it, for a patchy look. There is no blending with this product – wherever you press it, it stays.

The finished eye look is rather messy by design. The product dries down and will not crease or budge all day. It gives a dry, stiff feeling on the eyelid. All day long chunks flake off onto my face. I took a picture for you with the camera angled down to see that purple to green shift. However, looking straight on it is mostly purple.

With it being so patchy and messy at the edges, I am trying to think what would be better use for it. Maybe as a topper or finishing touch to an eyeshadow look, applied to the center of the eyelid as an accent.

The packaging is plastic and super cool looking. The removal and replacement of the plastic stopper is messy. This is not a product that I see myself reaching for much.

Claims: This is an innovative eyeshadow foil that adheres to the skin without needing to use a primer. It features light-reflecting pigments to give a color spectrum effect. It should last all day. To apply, use your fingers or a brush to press the formula. This will allow it to release its full color potential. Blend as desired for a seamless look.

Chameleon Chrome Eyeliner

These eyeliners are stunning! All of them have full pigmentation with a duochrome metallic shift. You can layer them without them erasing themselves, but layering is not needed. The formula is super creamy without tugging or skipping.

The tip is not a precision point, so you will not be able to do the most detailed work. They are twist up retractible, not sharpenable. These are best for graphic eye looks. If you do want a precision line, I recommend using eye tape or applying them with an eyeliner brush.

The swatches were hard to wash off! I tried a makeup wipe, then a gel cleanser, and finally an oil-based balm. None of these made a dent, and I started to get afraid to wear them on my eyes. My fourth and final removal attempt worked – I used the wet n wild Ta-Da Eraser. It always comes in the clutch when I am having a tricky eye makeup situation! I saturated a cotton round, gently pressed it over the swatches for a few seconds, then wiped away. If you are going to buy these eyeliners, pair them with the Ta-Da Eraser for sure.

With this long-lasting waterproof formula they make excellent water line eyeliners! I tested them for 10 hours without budging. Unfortunately, they irritate my eyes. All day long my eyes were watery and cloudy. This may not happen to you, but beware.

In wearing these on the eyelid for a graphic look, they are beautiful! The duochrome color shift can be seen, and they last all day.

Claims: These eyeliners have light-shifting pigments. They should be smooth to glide on without the need to sharpen. The waterproof and smudge-proof formula lasts up to 18 hours. They can be blended and layered with other shades.

I am ending with a full face of wet n wild makeup look. My point of this look is to show you how loud everything is when worn together. I look crazy, and I did not enjoy wearing this look.

Final Thoughts

This is a curious collection. Duochromes are not really trending or in demand right now. I am thinking wet n wild is trying to be different, hoping people will buy. I do love their innovation with new products and formulas.

However, this colleciton does not have a cohesive feel. If you try to wear everything together, the final look is simply a mess. Everything is too bold. You would not wear the eyeliner along with the eye foil. It is all too much.

When you go to spend your money on these products, you need to think about how wearable everything is. These colors will probably not be your go-tos for daily use. The products feel rather costume-like in nature, more along the lines of Fantasy Makers for Halloween, or at least for graphic and creative looks for a music festival.
