The beauty world has quite the extensive history with the elf Lip Exfoliator line! elf has revamped the line with a new formula and packaging, now discontinuing the OG feels that we loved. I am reviewing this new line with all seven flavors, as well as comparing and sharing my thoughts from the originals. Will these scrubs work for you? Let’s find out!
Details & Claims
I am going to start with where you can find the ‘new and improved’ line. All seven flavors are available on both elf and Ulta’s websites. Finding them might be spotty at your usual in-store retailers that have an elf counter. As time goes on, this might improve. They are $5 each.
They state this should be an improved formulation and packaging to give you even softer lips. The ingredients should smooth, buff, and condition. Your key ingredients are a variety of oils to moisturize, as well as sugar to get the buffing done. The oils are Jojoba and Avocado, paired with Vitamin E and Shea Butter for added nourishment. You should find that dead skin is easily swept away to leave you with a smooth feeling that ultimately allows your lip color to glide on better.
For the directions, you should gently rub the stick over your lips in small circular motions. A pro-tip here: leave the scrub residue on your lips for one to two minutes. This will allow the key ingredients time to do their job, and will make the dead skin wipe off even easier. After this timeframe, use a tissue, cotton pad, or damp washcloth to wipe the residue off. It is always a good idea to follow up with your favorite lip balm. I recommend my elf Hydrating Core Lip Shine review if you are needing to find an affordable balm that also gives you a barely there tint of color and some shine.

Review
This is where I need to bounce back and forth with my thoughts on the original formula. Brown Sugar used to be the only scrub. Its formula was very chunky, but I liked that a lot! I found it to be super effective and not painful for harmful in any way. Besides that, your bullet lasted a good amount of time. I know that many said the formula was too abrasive, but that was not my experience. While elf did not discontinue Brown Sugar, they released three new flavors to accompany it. However, their formula was different. It had a finer, softer sugar. While they still worked amazing, this soft formula got used up quickly so you had to repurchase more often. The bottom of the package contained a matching lip balm, which Brown Sugar never offered. elf has now discontinued all of these in favor of this “improvement.”
This new formula seems to be identical in application and feeling to the flavors introduced in the past. The sugar is very soft and fine, and these still give an amazingly effective scrub. However, they are going to get used up quickly. There is no included lip balms. If you can get past the slightly less economical outlook, I recommend these 10/10. Despite the nourishing ingredients, you should still follow up with a balm, as they are not enough to deeply hydrate on their own.
I also want to point out these delectable flavors! As soon as I pulled the cap off of Popcorn, the smell hit me immediately and it is on point. I simply cannot get over it, and it will make you hungry for sure. Brown Sugar is just as tasty as ever, as it reminds me of oatmeal. Coffee has a weaker flavor. You might find Cotton Candy, Coconut, and Strawberry to be more on the artificial side, but they are both tolerable. Orange Creamsicle is the real deal and seems to be the fan favorite. Ultimately, I would buy these again. I am always appreciative of scrubs in stick format because they are easier to use and not messy. The change of packaging does not improve our lives any with this line in particular. You can use these scrubs to prep your lips for all sorts of creativity, such as the stains in my elf Glossy Lip Stain review.

Shop The Scrubs
This is a great way to prep your lips for color, or simply to maintain a healthy pout. You should use these one to two times a week and follow up with a lip balm of your choice for maximum results. The only negative that I can highlight is that the soft formula will get used up quickly, which will prompt you to dish out $5 more often than you might enjoy. Is lip exfoliation a regular part of your skincare routine? Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.
