Robe Tie Hair Curls Tutorial

What You Need for Bathrobe Hair Curls

In order to do bathrobe curls at home, there are a few supplies that you will need for success. The market is flooded with robe curls headbands, which come as a kit containing everything you need. The kits typically have two scrunchies, one hair clip, and one tube-like device that mimics a bath robe belt. Some of the tubes are made more like bath robe belts! It all depends on what you select.

While those kits are historically inexpensive, the most cost-effective option is to use products from around your home. You will need the tie from your bath robe, two scrunchies (preferably silk to avoid frizz), and a hair clip.

You are welcome to use your favorite styling products to aid your hair in curling. I recommend curl creams or mousse, and finishing with texturizing spray or hairspray.

You may want a spray water bottle to dampen your hair if it is dry. If you are short on time and need to set your curls fast, a blowdryer will be needed.

For my tutorials, I will be using a robe belt because my robe curl headband is terrible. They are not all created equal!

Preparing to Do Bathrobe Belt Curls

Prepping your hair to do bathrobe hair curls is super easy! First, start with damp, towel-dried hair. If your hair is wet, it might not dry by the time you are ready to remove the belt, which will cause your curls to fall out.

Next, put the belt on top of your head, but do not center it. Place it closer to the back of your head, then secure it with a hair clip.

Now, part your hair into two sections. You will always work on one side at a time. From here, you are ready to do both of the upcoming tutorials.

Two Bathrobe Tie Curl Tutorials or Methods

1. Twisted Robe Curls

This first bathrobe belt curls tutorial is the most basic and simple method, which involves twisting your hair around the belt. Start by grabbing one small section of hair, about one inch in diameter.

Take that piece of hair and pull it over, then under the belt.

When you are in the under position, grab another small strand of hair and add it to the existing strand. Continue this process of going over, under, and grabbing a new strand until you run out of new hair to add in.

Once you run out of new hair strands to add in, wrap the ends of the hair around the belt. Then, fold the end of the belt over the ends of your hair. This will secure them in place and prevent frizzy ends. Finally, secure the end of the belt with a scrunchie. You can now proceed to the other side of your head.

Now that you are done, you can remove the hair clip and everything will stay in place. Your options here are to allow your hair to air dry by sleeping on it, doing work around the house, or hitting it with a blow drier.

To remove the belt, you can pull it out of the hair from the top of your head, or unwrap your hair.

2. French Braided Dressing Gown Curls

Another method of doing dressing gown curls is to french braid your hair around the belt. I am notoriously bad at styling hair, and I have not yet mastered this tutorial. Because of that, I am including an ultra easy video tutorial below:

Robe Curls Headband Frequently Asked Questions – FAQs:

I am ending with some frequently asked questions about robe curls:

How do you do robe curls?

You can do robe curls simply by wrapping small strands of hair around a robe belt. Alternatively, you can braid your hair around the bathrobe tie. Practice makes perfect, and you will soon be creating your own methods.

How long do bathrobe curls take?

Depending on the length and thickness of your hair, bathrobe curls can take around 15 minutes to create. From here, you will want to allow your hair to air dry overnight or during the day, or simply use a blowdryer.

Can you do bathrobe curls with wet hair?

It is not recommend to do bathrobe curls with wet hair because your hair may not fully dry by the time you need to remove the belt. You should start with damp, towel-dried hair.

How do you get robe curls to stay?

You can get robe curls to stay by using your favorite hair products. Any types of creams and mousses that support curly hair are great options, plus finishing with a texture spray or hairspray to lock in the style all day. The belt itself will stay in your hair on its own while styling, and you must secure the ends with scrunchies.
