In analyzing my own collection I am compiling this list of 10 easy ways to accessorize hair. Everything that you are seeing here is a small subset of how many accessories I really have. We would be here all day if I showed everything!
1) Hair ties
You can buy them in a rainbow of colors that vary from big and small or thick and thin. Sometimes they have charms, sparkles, or patterns. You can get hair ties to literally match every outfit or mood. Plus, they look great on your wrist, making them a great multi-purpose must-have.

2) Scrunchies
Scrunchies, along with ribbon-style hair ties are super feminine and fun! They are also gentle on the hair, as they minimize breakage and creases. I wear the ribbons on my wrist more than I do in my hair because they are so stinking cute!

3) Bows
You typically find them attached to a clip, which makes them highly versatile. I enjoy putting my hair in a bun or ponytail, and then placing a bow directly above it like a finishing touch. You can wear as many, or as few, as you want, and even mix or match them. Pair them with a headband, or wear them alone to hold a section of hair back. I can go on and on, but you get the idea.

4) Headbands
If you have a large head like me, headbands can be part of a love/hate relationship. Finding headbands that do not hurt your head can be a struggle. Headbands come in many formats. The most common, and perhaps the original style, is a semi-circle. Look for headbands that incorporate different materials, patterns, or cutouts if you want to add interest to your style. They also come in a variety of thicknesses. I will wear headbands with a ponytail, with my hair down, or really with any look because they are so easy to pop on.

Other types of headbands are a full circle, and normally are fully stretchy, or at least have an elastic part. The kind that have teeth do a great job of holding your hair out of your face, and I even use them to sleek my hair back for a quick style. The really thick ones are great if you color your hair and your roots are showing.

A term that we commonly hear in the world of headbands are head wraps. These are normally a full-circle fabric headband of moderate thickness with an elastic on the bottom. You can normally find them in so many patterns that they will match any outfit, or make a statement that is all their own. Dollar Tree often gets head wraps that match scrunchies, which provides you with a cohesive look.

I also have some head wraps that resemble a ribbon, but they contain a bendable wire. You can easily wrap these around your head and tie them like a ribbon, but they will not be as tight or secure as a standard headband.

5) Claw clips
These are a go-to when you need to get your hair put up in a way that also looks nice. You can use these for a half-up, half-down style, put them around a bun, or whatever you can dream up. They come in a variety of sizes depending on how much hair you need to hold up. My quick claw clip trick (wow, that rhymes!) is to put my hair in a ponytail, twist the pony slightly, then clip the pony to the back of my head and let the ends hang down. It is such a bouncy hair style that requires no skills.

6) Snap clips
I believe everyone needs solid black snap clips in their collection, because they are super handy for holding hair back in a flash. But, you should consider other colors, patterns, or embellishments. A simple snap clip can make such a statement, especially if you wear a bunch at one time. Consider lining a bunch of mixed and matched clips up in your hair for a personalized touch.

7) Barettes
When I hear the word “barrette” I cannot help but think of those tiny, colorful plastic hair accessories that I had a million of when I was kid. Barrettes translate over to adult life, but in a way that brings elegance and class. Usually, barrettes feature all sorts of embellishments, from jewels, beads, enamel, pearls, and metallic finishes. My favorite way to use a barrette is to accomplish a half-up half-down style where I gather the hair up behind my head. They add an extra-special pop to your hair which will definitely get people staring. P.S. I know the seashell claw clip does not fit into the barrette category, but it photographs so nice with these barrettes!

8) Hair pins
We all know the power bobby pins have to hold a hair style in all day, but hair pins are rapidly evolving into eye-catching accessories that we cannot ignore. Instead of reaching for a classic, plain black bobby pin, consider holding your hair back with pins covered in jewels, pearls, charms, and more. This simple step is minor to do, but provides a major look.

9) Bun makers
Hair accessories are not just limited to those items that add sparkle and shine. Accessories can also facilitate styling your hair. You already know that I am terrible with hair, and I need a lot of help making my hair do what I want it to do. Bun makers are truly a life saver. They come in different shapes and vary in material, but they all have the same end result. Once you make your bun then you can reach for pins, bows, headbands, or other accessories already discussed to polish your hair of the day.

10) Ponytail volumizer
No, this is not a piece of plumbing or whatever you are thinking! This tool makes your ponytail look full and voluminous. When you are gathering your hair into a ponytail, you place the flat part against your head, and then put your hair around the tool and secure it with a hair tie. The long end should be angled downwards. It really works! I usually pull at my hair and arrange it around the tool as a finishing touch so that I can ensure it is fully concealed.
