I am on a roll with finding inexpensive knock-offs for name brand heatless curling tools at stores like TJMaxx and Marshalls! This time I am testing Curlformers. This is a tool that claims to give you uniform sprial curls without heat, damage, or chemicals. My pack contains 18 curlers and a hook. They are made of a flexible and ligtweight material. I will be putting these to the test to see if they really work, while also doing a tutorial.

Curlformers At A Glance

• Not made for sleeping in.

• Eliminates damage while curling.

• Has a learning curve.

• Best for curling during the day.

Curlformers Tutorial

1. Prep Hair

To begin Curlformers on short hair, be sure that your hair is free of tangles. Your hair should be damp, not soaking wet. You may wet your hair with a spray water bottle (mine is a continuous spray bottle) or with leave-in conditioner.

Next, I parted my hair down the middle and used clips to maintain the part. Then, I sectioned my hair. I am going for nine curlers on each side, in order to use the max 18.

2. Assemble Hook

Second for this Curlformers tutorial is assembling the hook. Mine is in three parts that snap together. Now, grab a curler and shove the hook through any end. The ‘end’ that you use does not matter. We are ready to start getting them in the hair!

3. Put Hook In Hair

This next part is tricky to explain! Let me say, my fingers were very busy. I learned that the size of the section is important. Most hair tools call for one inch, but I might have been using less than that. I wish this set had a few more, maybe 20 curlers.

Twist the section of hair from the root down, but do not go all the way down the strand. Put the twisted hair into the hook. Pull the hook as close to your root as possible. Try to keep the hair strand at the top of the hook as you slide the curler up and over the hook section a bit. Pinch the top of the curler as you pull the hook out from the bottom handle.

This has a bit of a learning curve. If your hair will not pull through, then your section is too big. I got caught up on that fact a lot.

Keep this up until the entire side of your head is done. Then, repeat on the other side. I used the clips to try to hold the curlers out of my face.

4. Dry

This might be the confusing part of how to use Curlformers, but it is time to dry. Either allow them to air dry, or use a blowdryer. You really cannot feel if your hair is dry inside of the curler. I allowed mine to airdry for several hours, then used a bonnet attachment for my blowdryer at the end of my time. I ran it for 10 minutes on low. These are not suitable for sleeping in because they are rather hard to lay on. I know for me, my hair will not hold a style if it is still the slightest bit damp.

5. Remove & Style

Get ready to see the Curlformers before and after as they get removed! Pinch them at the top, then gently and slowly slide them out of your hair. I had no trouble removing them – there was no pain or tangles.

At this point you can separate the curls and use any products that you may like, as well as style your hair. I used a texturizing spray. I loved the look and how curly my hair was! Keep in mind that my hair is fine and thin, as well as on the shorter side. My hair hates to hold a curl. These only lasted about two hours on me. I think this tool is effective and worth it if your hair is a bit thicker and longer, especially if you know that it likes to hold a curl. The learning curve is not too bad to get over. I think the downside is having to wear these during the day instead of sleeping on them. They are not video call or errand friendly. I like the look better than the heatless curling rod headband aka Octocurl, but that one was a bit friendlier for short hair.

Curlformers Hair Curlers Frequently Asked Questions – FAQs:

I am ending with some frequently asked questions regarding the curlformers hair curlers.

Do you use Curlformers on wet or dry hair?

You can use Curlformers on slightly damp or dry hair. You want to be sure that your curls set evenly, which may not happen with wet hair.

How long do you leave Curlformers in?

You need to leave Curlformers in until your damp hair has fully air-dryed. There is no set amount of time. Giving them a blast of heat with a blow dryer can make your curling experience shorter.

Can you sleep with Curlformers?

While it is possible to sleep with Curlformers, it is not the most comfortable option. You will be laying on plastic tubes. These are best used to curl your hair during the day. If you do sleep on them, I recommend a silk or satin pillowcase for reduced friction.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Curlformers can be a decent option for heatless spiral curls. Practice does make perfect, and my tutorial will help you out big time. I do think that having longer and thicker hair will yield better results. This really comes down to your routine. Since they are not made to sleep in, these are less practical in my day to day life as someone who is on video calls a lot. Curling while sleeping is much more convenient. Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.

Are these a must-have staple in your routine?
