I have a drawer full of hair gadgets, and some are better than others. Fine hair, like mine, can be a struggle, as it can resist holding even a heat style for a long time. I am rummaging through my drawer to produce this list of the best hair styling tools for fine hair. To make the cut, each tool needs to be extremely easy to use, with little to no skills or learning curves required. I am terrible with hair styling, so a complicated tool is a hard pass. Also, each tool needs to create a beautiful style that lasts all day. I am narrowing my collection down to 10 tools. This list additionally features some related extras to further enhance your hot tool experience, and I am even digging through selfies to find examples of my hair styled with select tools. I do not have examples for everything, but for most I do. Time to begin with the list!
Best Hair Styling Tools for Fine Hair
1) Bed Head Curlipops Apple Bottom Curls
I am starting this list of the best hair styling tools for fine hair with the Curlipops Apple Bottom Curls curler by Bed Head. The reason this wand is called “apple bottom” is due to the unusual tapered shape. We typically see a curling wand go from thick to thin as our eyes travel up the barrel to the tip, but this one is the opposite. It goes from thin to thick! I absolutely love how my curls look each and every time that I use this curling wand, and it is my favorite out of my collection. Preferably, I will try to section my hair and take my time with this one to get a really nice, full and bouncy effect.
2) ION Automatic Ceramic Crimping Iron
Second is the ION Automatic Ceramic Crimping Iron that is taking the internet by storm! Just as the name implies, this device glides down your hair and crimps it in seconds. I take about a one inch strand of hair and close it between the two plates. The ION logo should not be upside down, and it should be facing outward, not facing you. That way, you know you are holding it correctly. As soon as the device closes, it starts feeding the hair through. All you need to do is glide your hand down, but you never have to clamp your hand around the device and suffer from sore hands. I do get some frizz with the crimps, but that is a side effect of any crimping. My favorite look is to crimp specific sections of hair, rather than my whole head.
3) Remington Pro ½” Pearl Ceramic Conical Curling Wand
Third is Remington’s Pro Half-Inch Pearl Ceramic Conical Curling Wand. This is your typical clip-less curling wand that is tapered. It is my go-to anytime I want to curl my hair, especially for a quick curl. Often, I will not section my hair, but I will take one inch sections and make my way around my head. I also like to put my hair in a ponytail and do a quick curl on the strands. A half-inch wand is great for fine hair, especially with tapering, because you get curls that are not super tight, nor will they be so loose that your hair will look devoid of curls after a short while. It has a variety of heat settings on a round dial, but I prefer to keep it around 15.
4) Conair YOU Wave Ultra Ceramic Waver
Fourth is Conair’s YOU Wave Ultra Ceramic Waver. This devices provides wavy hair that I personally like to call mermaid hair. Mine is about five plus years old, as waving picked up popularity around 2015. It is making another comeback, and similar devices are flooding the internet. As much as I love this waver, I rarely use it for a variety of reasons. For one thing, it takes a long time to style your entire head. You have to start with a one inch section of hair and use force to squeeze it between the plates, then keep moving down that strand until you are done. This device leaves me with cramped hands for days. But, the final results are beautiful.

5) Remington S1520PF Pretty Fierce Straightener
Fifth in these best hair styling tools for fine hair is Remington’s Pretty Fierce Straightener. It is super skinny, and my purpose for buying it is for curling my hair with a flat iron. Admittedly, I am pretty bad at it. Hair is not my calling in life. However, I can get a look that I enjoy where the hair looks sort of flipped and twisty. You can also use this straightener for its intended purpose, but that will take a long time with the skinny plates. I cannot get over how pretty mine is with the rose gold plates and glitter!
6) Silky Straight Ceramic Hair Straightening Brush
Next is the “as seen on TV” Silky Straight Ceramic Hair Straightening Brush. When I want straight hair, I prefer to use it over a regular straightener. It does the job a lot faster because you simply brush your hair with it. I do brush slower than I do with a real brush, but I rarely section my hair when using this device. For a quick and dirty straighten, any type of straightening hair brush is your best friend.
7) Remington Wet2Straight Flat Iron
Here is Remington’s Wet2Straight Flat Iron. The wide plates do help save time while straightening your hair, which is a must if your hair is long, and even if it is thick. You can use this device on dry, damp, or wet hair, as it has settings for all three. There are holes that allow the steam from your hair to escape. I prefer to use this on wet hair when I want a pin straight look that lasts for days. I do have to be sure to get my hair 100% dry, as even the slightest amount of dampness will cause sections to start to wave up.
8) Revlon One-Step Volumizer Hair Dryer
Continuing on, I have the oh-so-famous Revlon One-Step Volumizer Hair Dryer, and it is just as good as people say it is! My hair always ends up with a salon-blowout effect, and I enjoy giving my ends a slight curl. I can even get some volume at the roots, but my hair does not do volume, so it does not last that long. The device features two types of bristles, which are nylon and tufted. Tufted bristles typically make my hair a frizzy mess, but not with this device! I do apply a slight amount of oil to tame frizz after use, but nothing too drastic. This device never gets stuck or tangled in my hair, and there is no pain. I love how it features a high and low heat option, as well as a cool option. I prefer low heat because the high gets very hot, especially on the neck.

9) Conair Instant Heat 1-inch Curling Iron
Next is Conair’s Instant Heat 1-inch Curling Iron. I believe every woman should have a half-inch and a one-inch wand in their arsenal. The one inch is great for larger, looser curls. I use this wand as a clip-less wand by completely ignoring the clip. This device heats up super fast, hence the name “instant heat,” with a whole range of heat options. It even has a turbo button if you need it to heat up faster!
10) Conair Infiniti Pro Secret Curl Rollers
The final product in my list of the best hair styling tools for fine hair is Conair’s Infinity Pro Secret Curl Rollers. I consider the look that I get with these to be like old Hollywood style hair. Maybe that is not accurate, but that is how I like to think of it. They do not give me a very tight curl, but I do get a lot of volume at the roots that lasts even on my stubborn hair, along with a loose wave. Your hair will be bouncy all night! The hot rollers heat up inside of the chamber, and you get 12 total rollers in two sizes. Only having 12 rollers and two sizes does contribute to the lack of tight curls. I prefer to spray my hair with water to make it ever so damp, and then allow my hair to dry in the curlers.
The curlers are rather unusual. There is a purple piece of silicone that is shoved inside of the pink plastic. You tug on the round, disc-like bottom of the silicone to pull out and reveal the tube that you wrap your hair around. Once your hair is wrapped around, you push the silicone back up and into the plastic. This causes the curlers to stay in your hair and not budge.
Get Hot Tool Ready
Now that we have gone through the best hair styling tools for fine hair, I want to talk about some related products that naturally fit into this conversation.
Use and Storage
I store each of my hot styling tools in a storage bag. Besides the fact that they are great for travel, they prevent your cords from getting tangled up, and also keep your devices from scratching each other. There are specially designed bags on the market made to store hair styling tools that are still hot, and typically feature a pouch for the cord. Additionally, I like to protect my table top with a silicone mat designed for you to set your hot tools down on.
Heat Protection
Any time that I will be styling my hair with heat, I always start with a heat protectant, and allow the product to dry in my hair. This is your best defense against heat damage. Honestly, I am not dedicated to any specific brands or products. I use whatever I have on hand. Currently, I am using Aussie’s Total Miracle Heat Protecting Spray with all types of tools, and I only use Loreal’s Blow Dry It Thermal Smoother Cream with the Revlon dryer, or any hair dryer.
Revlon Extra
Since you now know that I am a fan of bags for my styling tools, I want to share this Amazon find! Revlon does not make a case for their blowdryer, but Brappo does offer a Hard Travel Case. The Revlon dryer is big and bulky and will not fit in normal storage bags, so having this option is great, especially since the case features a spot for the cord and plug.

I look for products that are easy to use with little skill required, that also produce lasting results on my fine hair. However, it is not just the tools that are important. Supplies such as heat protectant and storage bags will also make your life a lot better. Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.
