This August 2020 empties review has 23 products, which is not terrible. The month started out strong with a new empty almost every day, then the well started to run dry. By the end of the month the empties started rolling in again. I keep giving the reminder that I am working on products that take longer to use up this year, but I mentally beat myself up if I cannot produce 30 empties per month. Most of these are skincare finds, with a few beauty and body care. Also, the majority of these products are from Dollar Tree as they are killing it this year! There are no fragrance empties, but I am always diligently working on a body spray. Let’s see what I have.

Skincare

I am starting my August 2020 empties review with plenty of skincare garbage.

  • Spatherapy Animal Print Face Mask Soothing with Avocado: This face mask from CVS can use more slits to help it fit on the face better! The print is fun, especially for a kid, but ultimately I do not see any results. I will not repurchase.
  • Spatherapy Animal Print Face Mask Exfoliating with Dead Sea Salt: My thoughts are the same as they are for the above mask.
  • Shiseido Treatment Softener: This is a treatment lotion that is runny like water and is designed to soften normal to dry skin. My face is already pretty soft, so I am not really sure if I am getting any effects with my combination skin. It may soften my skin slightly. I would like to hear thoughts from someone with dry skin on this product. Oddly enough, it contains alcohol, which does not sound like a good product for the skin. I will not repurchase.
  • Sunday Riley Auto Correct: I have used the full-size before, so I know what I am in for. This product does effectively, yet temporarily, eliminate under eye darkness by providing an illuminated look. It does this because the product, when dispensed on your finger, looks just like a pearl. You can see that pearly glow right in the formula. The effects of this cream should last three to four hours. I find if I apply other products over top, like a moisturizer, but it sort of dilutes the effects. If these findings sound like something you are looking for, then I can recommend it. I am not really into eye creams yet, so I will pass.
  • Aveeno Positively Radiant Skin Brightening Daily Scrub: This face wash is great for daily use because it cleanses the skin as it should, and it contains a mild exfoliant. It does not contain fragrance or dyes, which makes it suitable for sensitive skin. So many products that I am using claim to brighten, so I really cannot say if this is brightening my skin any more or less than other products. I have no complaints, but I will not repurchase simply because I like a face wash designed for blemishes.
  • Olay Total Effects 7 in One Moisturizer: I know this deluxe sample says it is one week of product, but it is more like 10 days. This moisturizer does absorb easily into the skin and the effects last all day. It plays well alone or under makeup. It does not control my oil, but a cream formula never does. There are no fragrances or dyes. I have no complaints but will not repurchase as it is not that special.
  • April Bath and Shower Sprinkles Face Mask: This face mask has no slits cut in it to help it stay on your face. I do not think I have ever seen that before. Also, it is cut like an oval long ways. It is almost as if it is not fit for a human face! This mask does not fit or stay on my face well. It is supposed to be berry scented, but I smell nothing. I do not see any results and I will never repurchase.
  • April Bath and Shower Mermaid Face Mask: My thoughts are the same as they are for the above mask. Again, no scent. After using these masks my forehead broke out in a million tiny red bumps all in a cluster. Sometimes my acne does that, but this was different and really bad, almost like a rash. Once I went back into my Freeman rotation, the bumps went away. I may be allergic to something in these masks.
  • Freeman Detoxifying Charcoal Mud Face Mask: All of the Freeman masks are Dollar Tree finds. I have tried this mask many times on the blog, and my thoughts are the same. I believe it does help with my acne. What I eat seems to really affect my face, and my diet this month is horrible. I am expecting my skin to freak out more than it has, and it is most likely the Freeman masks in this post that are keeping things at bay. I have no plans to repurchase, but somehow I always do, and I do not mind that.
  • Freeman Deep Clearing Manuka Honey and Tea Tree Oil Clay Mask and Cleanser: This mask also helps with my blemishes, but I am not new to it. I will probably buy it again at some point.
  • Freeman Purifying Avocado and Oatmeal Clay Mask: I have the full-size version because I already know that I love this mask. I find it to be soothing, but it also helps with my acne and blemishes. You already know that I recommend it and will continue to buy it.
  • Freeman Deep Clearing Seaweed and Sea Salt Mud Mask and Scrub: Just when I am thinking I have tried all of Freeman’s Feeling Beautiful Masks, here is a new one for me. This mask actually gets unbearably itchy on me. Not so much on the actual face, but on the perimeter around the edge of the mask, like near my jaws. The itch gets so unbearable that I have to wash it off before the mud is fully dry. It has a slight grit to help exfoliate as you wash it away, and its another fine choice for blemished skin. Because of the itch I will not repurchase.
  • Freeman Beauty Infusion Firming Hydrogel Eye Mask: The left eye patch stayed perfectly on, but the right was too wet and kept sliding down my face. I tried wiping the excess serum off, but the entire 15 minute wear time was me constantly putting the patch back into place. However, this product does moisturize the under eye area, and I see some illumination of my dark areas as it reflects the light back. I do not have much puff to see any results for that. Besides the sliding, these are good hydrogel patches since I can actually see some results. This is a Dollar Tree find that I have no plans to repurchase.

Beauty

Next, I have six makeup items for this August 2020 empties review, which is pretty good for me!

  • wet n wild Fantasy Makers Setting Spray in After Party: If you adore any of wet n wild’s setting sprays in their permanent collection, then you will like this one. It is perfect for every day use, and it does successfully set makeup and extends wear time a bit. By no means is it a replacement for your holy grail spray, but this is great from the drugstore. I will not buy again as it is limited edition, and I have all of their other sprays to use up.
  • Kat Von D Lock It Setting Powder in Translucent: I primarily use this powder for baking since the sample container is so small, and it works well for that. But, it does set the face just fine. This powder does the job just as well as any other translucent loose powder, so I can recommend it. I will not repurchase because I have drugstore powders that I really like.
  • TPSY Lip Crush Lip Oil in Sweet Tooth: I am not a fan of lip oils, glosses, or anything that is not a long-lasting lip color. However, I must admit I enjoyed this lip oil! It is not heavy or greasy, rather it is lightweight and gracefully fades from the lips through eating and drinking. My lips feel moisturized, and the oil leaves behind a pink stain that lasts until I intentionally wash it away. The scent is sweet like candy, hence the name Sweet Tooth. While I have no plans to buy more, if I am ever in the market for a lip oil, this is the brand I will turn to.
  • Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base: This face primer is very moisturizing, and it should be great for those with dry skin. I am happy that it is not overly moisturizing so that I can still use a moisturizer and other skincare products with it. This product smooths right over the skin and is easy to work in. It does not provide a tacky finish, but more so a smoothing one. Makeup applies normally over top with no patchiness. However, it does not extend the wear of makeup. The way that your makeup normally wears will be the case with this primer. It is not bad, but I have no reason to repurchase.
  • Covergirl Lid Lock Up Eyeshadow Primer: You should already know that I love this eyeshadow primer because it is included in my long lasting eyeshadow primer blog post! This product is exactly what I am looking for- a primer that keeps eyeshadow from creasing for as long as you wear it. I have had the stopper pulled out for a long time and I am still scraping product out. The reason I am putting it in my empties is that the formula is starting to go bad, but I have gotten my monies worth. I highly recommend this product, and it will go bad long before you can ever use it up.
  • Maybelline Brow Ultra Slim 1.5mm Defining Pencil in Deep Brown: Time for one more makeup item in this August 2020 empties review. I cannot find a difference between this skinny brow pencil and any other similar pencil on the market. It fills my brows great with hair like strokes and it is easy to control. The formula is creamy and not waxy, and it lasts all day. I do use and enjoy the included spoolie. I have no problem buying this again, but I plan on comparing prices and amount of product to other similar pencils before I make a decision.

Hair & Body

I am ending my August 2020 empties review with three hair and one body item.

  • Freeman Nourishing Chamomile Hair Mask: In June I gave a raving review to the Soothing Jojoba Oil Hair Mask, and I found two more. You know I am going to test them out! The chamomile mask does not give a cooling sensation, but it does work as a conditioning treatment, and the chamomile scent is nice. I like this one as well and it is an excellent Dollar Tree find. You can get soft and repaired hair for $1, who does not like that?! I am excited to try the other version that I have. For now, I will not repurchase, but I may if my hair needs help in the future.
  • Freeman Repairing Honey Hair Mask: This is the other hair mask, and the honey scent is so amazing I could eat it! Again, no cooling sensation, but this is a great $1 deep conditioning mask for soft hair that I can recommend. I have no plans to repurchase, but I might down the line if my hair needs it.
  • R&Co Waterfall Moisture and Shine Lotion: This is a leave-in conditioner that I apply to damp hair. It does its job by adding moisture and shine to the hair. I have no plans to buy again, but it is perfectly good.
  • Nivea Foaming Silk Mousse Body Wash in Vanilla Caramel: This is my first ever foaming body wash, and it is a Dollar Tree find. It works as a body wash should, but it is nothing over the top. The vanilla scent is light and does not linger very long on the skin. I have another scent, but I have no plans to repurchase.

Conclusion

In summary of this August 2020 empties review, I wish there are more products to report on. But, I am loving all of my Freeman finds and they are totally keeping my skin together right now. I never thought I would find myself interested in a lip oil, but that is the joy of trying something new! For September there should be a wider variety, as I know of some products that are nearing their end, but not fast enough to fit into August. I keep teasing that a bombardment of face masks are coming, and they will by the end of the year because I am loaded with sheet masks. Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.

    1. This stuff only lasts me about a month, not quite. I thought maybe I was using too much, but now that you say that, I guess not. Good thing this was only $1, I would not pay more for the amount
