I am trying something new with my product empties series! When I do them quarterly, it becomes a very long post that is overwhelming for you to read, and for me to write. I do not think that reviewing 80-100 products in one post is the most efficient. As a result, I will now do monthly empties, starting with January 2020 empties. I have 15 products to review, and I will state whether or not I will repurchase. Let’s get started.

Body

I am starting the January 2020 empties off with body products.

  • Dove Go Fresh Dry Spray: I do not typically put deodorant in my empties, but since this was in a Walmart Beauty Box, I want to follow up. This is my everyday deodorant, and I like it a lot! You do not get white marks on your clothing, and it controls odor well. I will repurchase.
  • Soap and Glory The Righteous Butter: This is a thick, luxurious body butter or lotion. It does an excellent job of softening the skin, with no dry skin in sight. I think it is particularly good to use in the winter, and the Original Pink scent is nice. While I do recommend it, I typically do not go out and purchase it on my own since I obtain it from gift sets.

Fragrance

Second are two fragrance samples.

  • Giorgio Armani Si Passione: This is a floral and fruity fragrance that is not really my cup of tea. I will not repurchase.
  • Banana Republic Pure White: This is not bad, but it definitely does not have the intensity or lasting power of a high-end fragrance, even though it is packaged to look like one. I have no plans to repurchase.

Hair

Third are two hair products, both in the realm of conditioners.

  • John Frieda Wonder Drops Hair Mask Vibrancy Enhancing: This is a deep conditioning treatment. I cannot say that I see any vibrancy enhancement, but I assume that is for color treated hair only. My hair feels like a normal conditioner has been used. It does not have that super soft feeling that you normally get with deep conditioning treatments. It is not special enough to repurchase.
  • Love Beauty & Planet Coconut Water & Mimosa Flower Volume and Bounty Conditioner: Somehow I have used up the conditioner before the shampoo, but I promise that the shampoo is coming in my February empties! This stuff smells good- besides the coconut I swear I can smell watermelon. I like that it does not leave horrible build-up on my hair like other shampoo/conditioners from this brand. This is average conditioner that I have no plans to repurchase.

Skincare

Fourth are a bunch of skincare empties.

  • Soap and Glory Off Your Face 3-in-1 Daily Purifying Cloths: These cloths can perform a variety of duties, from acting as a toner, cleanser, or even a makeup remover cloth. They have a good amount of moisture. If you look closely you can see a quilted texture that provides light exfoliation, much like a peel pad, when pressure is applied. They do not burn my eyes. I will not repurchase simply because they do not fit into my particular routine well.
  • elf Superclarify: This is a translucent white facial cleanser. You can get it to gently foam when used with the Foreo Luna Fofo. I consider this to be a general, daily face cleanser that gets the job done. It is not too special or over the top for a repurchase, but I am moving onto the full-size bottle that I already had.
  • wet n wild photofocus Rose Toner: I like toners in spray bottles! This one does hydrate the skin for a natural, healthy glow. In my opinion the rose scent is a little “spoiled,” but you get used to it. I have other toners to work on, so I will not repurchase, but it is limited edition.
  • Sunday Riley CEO Rapid Flash Brightening Serum: So far I am a big Sunday Riley fan because I see immediate results with their products. This is the first one that does not necessarily impress me. I think it works just fine as a serum, and I can use it daily with or without makeup. While it may be brightening my skin, I use so many other products that it is hard to tell if it is worth the price tag. I am moving on to a small sample now.
  • elf Clarifying Booster Drops: Many people say that these drops really help with acne and blemishes, but I do not see any changes. I have only mixed these drops into moisturizer, but I believe you can mix these into anything without them affecting the texture or performance of your products. These are not impressive enough to repurchase.
  • Sunday Riley CEO Glow Vitamin C+ Tumeric Face Oil: I also have so-so thoughts about this Sunday Riley product. In my mind, there is no way that an oil can fail to work or to hydrate the skin. This one definitely does hydrate, but I do not see any other results. I will not repurchase, but I will move onto other oils to use up.
  • elf Active Redness Relief Express Mask: This is a two minute gel mask that is designed to calm your red skin after a workout. It is very cooling, so I imagine it will work well for that. I do not work out to the point of getting red, so I use this like a standard face mask, thus I do not see benefits using it that way. I cannot be mad about that, but I have no reason to repurchase.
  • Tarte Drink H2O Hydrating Boost: This is a gel moisturizer that is super lightweight and easy to blend into the skin. It keeps my skin feeling hydrated all day, and it even controls my oils, which is a hard feat to accomplish! It reminds me of my favorite moisturizer- Clinique’s Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly. I will base my repurchases on fluid ounces vs the price.

Beauty

Fifth and finally for these January 2020 empties is one beauty sample. I do not wear makeup very often due to working from home, so it is becoming difficult to empty beauty products.

  • elf Poreless Putty Primer sample: I know that many people praise this primer, but as I have said before, I personally do not think it makes my makeup last any longer, nor does it reduce the abnormally large pores on my nose. With that being said, I do think it primes the skin well for makeup application. What does not work for me may work for you, so I still recommend giving it a try if you are curious.

Conclusion

We are at the end of my January 2020 empties. This year I am definitely working on products that are more difficult, or take more time to use up. That is why I only have 15 empties to show out of a 31-day month. Overall, I do have some good trash here that you may want to test out for yourself. Until February for more empties, continue to let your true beauty shine.

  1. I was wondering whether I should try the John Frieda drops, but I don’t think I’ll bother trying them now. I want my hair to feel as if I’ve used something special when I buy single use products xo

    1. I agree. I have tried *so* many conditioning packets, and they normally make my hair feel really soft, even if I don’t see or feel much else going on. I was expecting more from the John Frieda line. Maybe that is why they are discontinuing this one in the pink package.
