June 2020 Empties Review – Trash Time

Hopefully you are not feeling like ‘Amanda you say this every month,’ but June has gone by super fast. I am slightly disappointed to only have 16 products in my June 2020 empties, and this is due to the skincare category being a little bit lighter. I am still working on my Olay mask sticks, and once I use those up, get prepared for me to spam you will all sorts of quick masks! Most impressively for June I am knocking out some full-size products that I have been working on all year, or even longer. My 2020 focus is emptying products that simply take time. Makeup empties are still the bane of my existence as working from home really put a dent in makeup wearing. I promise I am working on those samples. Anyway, time to dive into my wastebasket.

Skincare

I am starting off my June 2020 empties with some skincare trash.

  • Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm: After getting 75% of the way through this product, I suffered a horrible bout of dry lips that were painful. I am not sure if that was caused by this lip balm, or by the lip scrub I was using at the time. After finishing the lip scrub, but still using this lip balm, my lips did get better, but not 100%. I know I used up a whole tube of this balm as a kid, but I do not remember having problems, or anything negative. For now, I am on the fence, but I have no plans to repurchase as I have many lip balms to use up. I do enjoy the minty scent and cool feeling.
  • Global Beauty Care Charcoal Cleansing Nose Strips: My reviews on pore strips are really all the same. Maybe it is just my nose, perhaps even user error, but I never see more than a few particles on the strips after removal. These are much better than the last brand that I reviewed simply because they do not leave black residue on the skin. Ultimately, these are fine, but are a take it or leave it kind of product for me.
  • April Bath & Shower Under Eye Masks/Lip Mask: Dollar Tree has released a ton masks under their in house April Bath & Shower brand, so you know I will be testing these out for you. The lip mask is too heavy to stay on your lips on its own, so you will have to lay down or sit back in a chair the whole time you are using it. If they made the lip mask thinner, I think it will work better. My lips do feel hydrated after use. The under eye masks are designed to reduce puffiness, which I luckily do not have, so I cannot test for that. I can say that they leave the under eye area feeling hydrated. One of the eye masks was ripped in multiple places, so it kept sliding down my face. The other stays in place just fine. I have no plans to repurchase.

Haircare

Next are some haircare empties.

  • Batiste Dry Shampoo in Blush: As I always say, Batiste Dry Shampoos work perfectly good. They quickly absorb oil and leave your hair looking fresh all day. I am not opposed to buying this brand in the future.
  • Freeman Basics Smoothing Jojoba Oil Hair Mask: This is my first time seeing a mask from Freeman that is not for the face, so of course I am testing this out for science! This Dollar Tree find is pretty cool. I am not sure what jojoba oil smells like, so I presume that scent is there. What really hits you is a peppermint and menthol scent, which are ingredients. After allowing this deep conditioner to sit on the hair for a few minutes, my scalp has a cooling sensation. I must admit this sensation lasts for about 30 minutes after washing the hair out, and I honestly like that. If you use this product for a morning shower, I can see how it will act as an invigorating pick me up. Yes, my hair does feel deeply conditioned! I have many conditioners to use up right now, so I cannot justify a repurchase, but at a future date I definitely will.
  • Yes to Coconut Ultra Hydrating Moisturizing & Refreshing Dry Shampoo Wipe: The last time that I reviewed these dry shampoo wipes I gave them a scathing review. So, you are probably wondering, why on earth am I buying another? Well, I never tried the coconut one before! The coconut scent hits you in the face immediately, but my review is staying the same. Spraying your hair with an aerosol dry shampoo is 100% faster than trying to wipe your head down. The powder gets all over your shirt, so you need to either go naked or wear a robe during use. The only benefit here is that your hair does look fresh and it lasts all day. I promise I will not buy another unless I find a new scent.
  • Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Leave-in Conditioner: I use this as a leave in conditioner on damp hair, and I believe that it does work just fine. The scent is a bit odd, as it reminds me a bit of burning hair. My hair does feel like a leave in is being used. I have many others to use up, so I have no concrete plans to repurchase.
  • Revlon Colorsilk Glowing Blonde Colorstay Moisturizing Shampoo: I am very confused by this shampoo and conditioner duo. I bleach blonde highlights into my hair, so my thought process in buying these are that my blonde sections will get toned. The bottle makes it sound like it deposits blonde pigment and has warnings similar to those on hair dye. Well, I see nothing happening with my hair. Upon further research, these seem to be developed for those who dye their hair blonde to help prevent color fade. This duo is probably not designed for my hair type, which is why I see no results. I can attest to seeing the shine. I say, if you are a natural blonde stick to purple shampoo, and if you are a natural brunette, stick to blue shampoo. I have a whole blog post on those. Finally, if you dye your hair blonde, then maybe give these a try. I will not repurchase.
  • Revlon Colorsilk Glowing Blonde Colorstay Nourishing Conditioner: See the above review on the shampoo. I find both of the shampoo and conditioner to be average and nothing to phone home about. The conditioner could make my hair feel softer, in my opinion. I will not repurchase.

Beauty

I have one beauty related item in my June 2020 empties.

  • Maybelline Master Precise All Day Liquid Liner in Black: I have gone through many sample sizes of this eyeliner, and I have yet another waiting in the wings. Honestly, this one is great, and I will totally buy the full-size once I use up my other eyeliner pens. The felt tip is fine enough that I can control how thin or thick my line is. We all know the eyeliner game of trying to start out thin, then the next thing you know, you have eyeliner up to your eyebrows. That will not happen with this liner. It is matte black and lasts all day. I do feel like putting liner pens in my empties is a cheat. Do they ever really run out before they dry out? This one still technically goes, but I cannot do a wing with it anymore, and it is skipping on making a straight line. I am getting sick of using two liner pens to accomplish one job, so bye bye on this one.

Fragrance

I also have one body spray under the fragrance category for June 2020 empties.

  • Body Fantasies Japanese Cherry Blossom: Japanese Cherry Blossom is such an OG scent from Body Fantasies. I am not good at describing fragrances, but yes, it smells like the name. I have been using Body Fantasies since middle school, and I like them for what they are worth. They may only last a few hours, but we are not talking about a high-end fragrance here. I believe I have another opened bottle somewhere. I have no direct plans to repurchase, but one always pops up somewhere.

Body

I am ending my June 2020 empties with some body care products.

  • Soap & Glory Clean On Me: As you can see here, the Soap & Glory products that I got for Christmas 2019 are all hitting my June 2020 empties at the same time. I am not stranger to Clean On Me. It is absolutely a creamy body wash that is moisturizing on the skin and gets the job done. The Original Pink scent is one that will grow on you, but be mindful that it is strong for those sensitive to fragrance. It has some lasting power, but it lasts a lot better when paired with their body spray and lotion with the same scent. If you do the power trio, the scent lasts overnight and you can still smell it in the morning. At this time I have no plans to repurchase, but I seem to get a bottle every year in a gift set, and I love it.
  • Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Lotion: Sugar Crush is my favorite Soap & Glory scent because it smells like sweet lime! They make other products in the scent as well, such as a body wash and body spray that you must try. This lotion definitely works to keep the skin smooth and soft. I luckily do not suffer from dry skin on the body, so I cannot share any life changing results. Again, no plans to repurchase, but it will probably appear next Christmas.
  • Soap & Glory The Scrub of Your Life: This is another product that I am no stranger to. This body wash does foam up like what you are used to, but it doubles as an exfoliator. It is a clear gel that contains exfoliating beads. They are not harsh at all, but I like to to rotate this product with Clean On Me every other day. It also has the Original Pink scent. As I keep saying on this brand, I will probably get more at Christmas, and I am cool with that, but I do not plan on buying another bottle on its own.
  • Suave Advanced Therapy Lotion: I use this lotion as a nightly hand/cuticle lotion before bed, as part of my nail care routine. It has no fragrance or dyes, which is great for those who are sensitive. Really, there is not much smell at all, so I consider it more as a medicinal/drugstore product. I rank hand lotions by how my hands feel in the morning after I get up and do a few tasks. I believe it does help with dry hands. This small bottle is a Dollar Tree find. I have no plans to repurchase, but Suave already makes my favorite lotion.
  • April Bath & Shower Foot Mask: Here is another one of those new Dollar Tree products. You get one mask for each foot, and the shape reminds me of a Christmas stocking, meaning they luckily do not cut out the toes. The masks are attached where the opening to insert your foot should be. After pulling them apart easily, I find that neither mask is actually open to put my foot in. I have to take scissors and cut my own opening. This product does leave the skin feeling moisturized, but you can get the same effect from using lotion on your feet without needing to go through this extravagant process. I suffer from dry skin on my heels and toes, and it remains after using these masks. I did not expect a cure, and I only know of one product that can nearly cure over night. At this time I will not repurchase, but the experience is one to try.

Conclusion

In summary of my June 2020 empties, I have products that span quite a few categories for some variety. The real winner here is the Freeman hair mask. A few products are a hard pass, but a good chunk are just fine for you to try. I have such a backlog of products to use up, I often cannot justify a repurchase, plus, I want a product to really knock my socks off and stand out from the pack. I am tough, what can I say. You should use my reviews to judge if the products sound like they will agree with you or not before you spend the money. What I may not find appealing can be your next big hit. Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.

    1. Yay! You are gonna love it! The only store in my city that sells Soap & Glory is a drugstore called Walgreens and they don’t even have a decent selection. But, they get awesome gift sets for the holidays.
