March 2021 Empties Review | Trash Time

All products are independently reviewed and tested. Clicking on any links may result in The Aesthetic Edge earning a commission. Read our disclosure here.

March started out very strong, so I anticipated ending with 31 empties, equating to one empty per day. That is secretly my goal all the time, but I know it is not always attainable. My March 2021 empties review officially has 28 products, which is phenomenal, and only a few items shy of my unofficial goal. However, there are a bunch of products that narrowly missed getting into this blog post. If only the month was a few days longer, I could probably add about five more items in! Like always, I have detailed reviews and links to the products if I can find them, plus I mention if I will repurchase.

Skincare

There are eight skincare empties in my March 2021 empties review.

  • wet n wild photofocus Hydrating Balm Stick: I apply this stick before my moisturizer for added hydration, but it is not a replacement for moisturizer. It does a good job of hydrating the skin and making it feel smooth. I really do not have a special reason to repurchase.
  • Yes to Cucumber Hypoallergenic Facial Wipes: These wipes could stand to be more wet, so I do add micellar water. They are very thin and you can rip them easily. I find that they do irritate my skin and leave behind redness, which is not normal for my skin and makeup wipes. How ironic that they are called hypoallergenic! I will not repurchase.
  • Blemish Patches: This is a Dollar Tree find. I have worn these patches over popped and non-popped acne, but the results are lack luster. Often, I do not see any changes at all. Sometimes the acne becomes poppable, but it does not heal. Maybe the patch turns a bit white, sometimes it does not. I believe that patches do work, but you need to invest a bit more money than $1 if you want real results. I will not repurchase.
  • Embrace Your Face Soothing Cucumber Peel-off Face Mask: I am continuing to work on these masks from a Christmas gift set, and my reviews of the peel-offs are always the same. They leave my face red in areas because they are painful to remove, and I do not see actual results. Considering this one is called “soothing,” that is rather ironic. These masks cannot be repurchased.
  • Embrace Your Face Cooling Aloe Clay Face Mask: I have finished the peel-offs from this collection, so now onto the clays. When these dry they flake horribly all over your shirt. I really do not think anything happened to my skin. These masks cannot be repurchased.
  • No 7 Protect & Perfect Intense Advanced Day Cream: I have reviewed this product so many times on the blog. I do like that it has SPF, but I have a suspicion that it breaks me out. Further, it makes my combination skin extra oily. I always get this in Christmas gift sets but I would never purchase it on its own.
  • elf Cosmetics Illuminating Eye Cream: This is the best drugstore eye cream that I have tried thus far. It does hydrate the under eye, and a little goes a long way. You also get slight illumination to help disguise dark circles. It is not on the level of Sunday Riley Auto Correct, but it is darn good for drugstore. I just may repurchase.
  • Olay Cooling Ultimate Hydration Essence: The raving part of my review has to do with the spray nozzle. I try a lot of spray products, but this nozzle has the finest mist that I have ever encountered. It feels like you are spraying nothing on your face, as if you not even getting wet, but you are. Now I can save the bottle and refill it with a makeup setting spray! Anyway, I like to spray this on before moisturizer to lock in an extra boost of hydration. I have even used it to set or refresh makeup, which works great with the fine mist. Naturally, it is not designed to extend makeup wear. Ultimately, I am not sure if it really does anything besides feeling nice to use. I have no plans to repurchase.

Haircare

I have five haircare empties in my March 2020 empties review, so I feel accomplished about that!

  • Tresemme Pro Pure Light Moisture Shampoo: What can I say, this shampoo cleans the hair like it should. Otherwise, it does not weigh the hair down or build up. I am not really sure how much moisture it is providing along with all the other products that I use. I appreciate there is no dyes, but I wish there was no fragrance. There is no reason to repurchase.
  • Tresemme Pro Pure Light Moisture Conditioner: Just like my feelings on the shampoo, I believe this conditioner does condition the hair as it should and without any product build up. Is it any more special than another conditioner? No, so there is no reason to repurchase.
  • Soap & Glory The Rushower Sent-Sational Dry Shampoo (2): This dry shampoo does nothing for my hair. No matter how much I spray on, my hair still looks greasy and unchanged. You can somewhat smell the scent throughout the day, but the can makes it sound much more magical than it really is. I would not repurchase, but it appears it is being discontinued from the US.
  • Head & Shoulders Supreme Soothing Leave On Scalp Cream: I am counting these three ampules as one empty because they come in a box, so I have finished the box. I assume you are to apply one ampule to the entire head, but I prefer to use an ampule several times. The white cream is easy to work into the scalp and does not leave residue in the hair or on the roots. However, I can still see dandruff and I do have the occasional itch. So, these are not effectively working for me. I will not repurchase.

Bodycare

There are seven bodycare items in my March 2020 empties review. You may recognize many of which are gifts from this past Christmas.

  • Soap & Glory Call of Fruity No Woman No Dry Body Butter: This lotion is just like any other Soap & Glory lotion. So, if you like them, you will like this. It is rich and thick, and does effectively moisturize the skin. The fruity summer scent is also nice. I am sure it will appear again in a gift set, but I have no direct plans to repurchase.
  • Freeman Lovely Neck Firming + Smoothing Sheet Mask (2): I do think my neck feels smooth after using this mask, but I am not sure if anything else is happening. There is no real reason to repurchase.
  • Freeman Perky Bust Boosting + Toning Sheet Mask (2): Perhaps my skin does feel firmer, but it may all be in my head as I look too hard for results. There is no real reason to repurchase.
  • Secret Freshies Deodorant in Oceanside: I have finally finished my last Freshies Deodorant! My review stays the same. These do work like any other deodorant, white marks included. I personally prefer a spray-on simply to avoid white marks. I will not repurchase.
  • Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Illuminating Body Lotion: I do believe this lotion effectively moisturizes the body. I really do not think it is illuminating, or maybe it is slightly because I am looking too hard. While I do like the scent of coconut, hibiscus is a unique flower and when the scent is combined with coconut it is not my favorite. I will not repurchase.

Fragrance

My plan for this year is to use up all of my rollerball fragrances! I have one empty spray bottle on hand that I transfer the fragrances into to make emptying faster. Yes, I still have so many body sprays to use up, but I am stepping away from those for a moment. Do not forget I emptied a rollerball in February, so we are making good progress!

  • elf Active Hello Fresh! Fragrance Rollerball: This rollerball is discontinued, but if you have ever used the products in elf’s Active line, this is the signature scent. It is a fresh and clean take on clean linen. This fragrance is very poor quality. You can barely smell it once applied and it does not last very long.
  • Anecdote Weekend Vibe Rollerball: This is a nice fragrance that definitely makes me think of summer. The notes are citrus and woody, including pink passionfruit, pineapple water, sandalwood and whipped musk. It does not last as long as a high-end perfume. Honestly, I have no reason to repurchase.

Makeup

Makeup is really hard to empty, even when it comes to samples. I have two empties to share as part of this March 2021 empties review.

  • Loreal Infallible Pro Matte Gloss in Statement Nude: This formula is the weirdest, or one of the strangest, I have ever tried. It applies like a wet gloss, but it is not sticky. As you wear it, the wetness goes away and it wears matte sort of like a lip stain that is almost full coverage. It will transfer as it does not dry down onto the lips. Thus, this is not a drying product. Also, it is not long lasting. I love the color Statement Nude, as it is a dark mauve leaning towards brown, but I would not repurchase.
  • Make Up For Ever Matte Velvet Skin Full Coverage Foundation in Y205 Alabaster: The shade is way too light for me. If you have dry skin, stay as far away as possible from this foundation! It is incredibly matte, so much so that it can even look dry on my combination skin, and somewhat heavy. To combat that, I try to pair it with hydrating primers and setting sprays. This foundation is absolutely full coverage, and a little bit goes a long way. It is definitely long wearing and lasts well, with normal wear and tear. I will not repurchase.

Nails

There is only one nail empty, as they never seem to be fruitful.

  • Formula X Cuticle Oil: I am not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but to me, cuticle oil is cuticle oil. Of course, this oil works just like any other one would. Formula X is discontinued, but I would have no issue repurchasing if I could.

Conclusion

Thank you for sticking with this March 2021 empties review! I have so many items that need to go this year, so this progress makes me immensely grateful. As mentioned in the intro, I have about five products that are nearly done, so April is going to get off on a good start, much like March did. Everything that I got from Christmas and gift exchanges has really packed my stockpile, so I feel the stress more than ever to finish items. I hope that you continue to follow my progress this year as you shop my raves and rejects. Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.

The first quarter of the year is over, how are you doing on empties?
