Several years ago, elf Cosmetics released a limited-edition collection called Jelly Pop, featuring watermelon-infused products for dewy skin and glossy lips. It was around for a while, and many fell in love with the elf Jelly Pop Dew Primer. That was elf’s first gripping primer. They changed the color and scent to bring it back for the Mint Melt collection. After that, they “improved” the formula to bring us Power Grip Primer and its sister formula containing 4% Niacinamide. For a limited time, elf is bringing Jelly Pop back. The primer sold out immediately, as the excitement was overwhelming! Their website still has the product listing live with the option of being notified about a restock, and a limit of one primer per order. I am assuming it will be back shortly, so I am providing a focused review to help you with your purchase decision.
Details & Claims
First, based on the limited time nature of this primer your purchase option is only on elf’s website. It comes in a 1.01 fl oz or 30 mL tube and the elf Jelly Pop Primer price is $10. Pictured in this blog post is the mini size tube that was available when the full Jelly Pop collection was still around.
This primer features a unique, sticky gel that should grip makeup. It has a clear finish for wear on all skin tones. It has skin-loving ingredients to smooth your texture, all with a refreshing watermelon scent. The primer can also moisturize your skin.
It is designed for oily, dry, and combination skin types. As an additional note, all elf products are free of phthalates, parabens, nonylphenol ethoxylates, triclosan, triclocarban, and hydroquinone, as well as Vegan and cruelty free.
Ingredients
As mentioned above, the primer has skin-loving ingredients that moisturize and improve texture. Those key ingredients are hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, Vitamin C, and watermelon extract. Here is the full ingredient list:
Review
You will note in the swatches below that it has a clear gel formula that is a bit on the runnier side when we think about elf’s other gripping primers. I tested this primer in my article on the best elf primers for combination skin, but, I did not give it the best remarks. As time has passed, I have learned more about my skin’s makeup and skincare needs, and now this primer works much better! On application it layers normally with skincare and makeup, leaving you with a slight level of tackiness. It does give a light level of hydration, and a healthy, dewy glow.
Makeup applies normally over top, but I recommend only using any grip primer with liquid and cream foundations. You can get clingy spots with powder foundation, as well as cream and liquid contour if used under foundation.
At the end of the day I find normal wear and tear. This primer does not harm makeup wear time, and it may provide slight extension, but nothing too wild.
We want to keep in mind that this formula is elf’s first iteration, and it is pretty good, but they have refined it a few times to ultimately bring us my elf Power Grip Primer review. With that being said, many love this primer, and it is perfectly good and affordable for the quality that you get.

I’m a little sad I missed the restock as I really liked this primer . It was my second favorite after the Nyx Marshmallow primer . Thankfully the Marshmallow primer is permanent.
