It all started when elf Cosmetics wanted to dupe a high-end, pore filling primer that is putty like. That is where we got Poreless Putty Primer. This product did so well that elf has given us a series of Putty Primers, and these are not just limited to the face. Now, we have a liquid version of the original, which is again building hype for the brand. I am fully covering the elf Liquid Poreless Putty Primer with swatches, ingredients, and details. I want us to know if it really works, or if it is just a gimmick.

Where to Buy the Primer

I am starting with where you can find this primer. Since it is new, the retailers are limited. This is common for elf. Right now, you can find it on their website, as well as online and in-stores at Target. As time goes on, I am sure we will see it in more places. It sells for $10 in a 0.94 fl oz squeeze tube.

elf Liquid Poreless Putty Primer Ingredients, Claims, Directions

Second, let’s cover the elf Liquid Poreless Putty Primer ingredients, claims, and directions. As you will see in the list below, this primer contains both water and dimethicone:

water (aqua), dimethicone, hdi/trimethylol hexyllactone crosspolymer, trimethylsiloxysilicate, glycerin, c9-12 alkane, polymethylsilsesquioxane, cetyl peg/ppg-10/1 dimethicone, propylene glycol, hydrogenated polyisobutene, dimethicone/vinyl dimethicone crosspolymer, sodium chloride, polyglyceryl-4 isostearate, phenoxyethanol, disteardimonium hectorite, silica, propylene carbonate, ethylhexylglycerin, caprylyl glycol, disodium edta, triethoxycaprylylsilane, squalane, butylene glycol, hydroxypropyl cyclodextrin, cyclodextrin, polydextrose, resveratrol, tocopherol, camellia sinensis leaf extract, titanium dioxide (ci 77891), iron oxides (ci 77491, ci 77492, ci 77499)

This primer claims to be lightweight, yet gripping for long-lasting wear. It should minimize the appearance of your pores for a smooth complexion. The key ingredient is squalane, which provides hydration. It is for all skin types.

To apply, you are to pat an even layer into your skin. You may also use their Putty Primer Brush. Allow it 30 seconds to set before makeup application.

elf Liquid Poreless Putty Primer Review, Swatches

Finally, we have my elf Liquid Poreless Putty Primer review with swatches. It is a thick, light pink liquid that matches the color of the original putty. You can get all of the putties compared in my blog post on which elf Putty Primer is best. It layers well with skincare and makeup. However, I am very disappointed with the pore filling aspect. I have large pores on and around my nose, and this product does not fill them at all. I have tried both patting and rubbing the product in, but nothing. The original fills my pores about 90%. The entire purpose of this primer is squashed for me. Even in the swatch below, you really cannot see a difference between my hands. It fails to blur.

It does leave the skin with a soft, matte finish that feels smooth and not tacky. Makeup applies normally over top. If you wear this with a matte foundation, it looks great! When worn with a dewy foundation, it takes almost all of the dew out. It basically sucks the life out of it. Either way, I see normal wear and tear at the end of the day, but things look great. I find that it does extend the wear time of makeup a bit, and it also allows some oils through. I like this part of course, but I am sad about the lack of pore filling, and I do not like how it zaps the life out of dewy foundation.

For me, it is probably more practical to wear the Putty in targeted areas, then the liquid over the rest of the face. But, given the claims, I am annoyed by needing to use two primers to achieve the job of one. For a more one and done approach that still grips, I recommend my elf Putty Primer vs. Power Grip comparison. I do remember elf making an Instragram comparison post and the main difference was that they left pore filling out of the list of benefits for the liquid. It is in the name! I say, save your money. This definitely seems like a product designed to bring hype.

Conclusion

In summary, I am getting plenty of mattifying and long-lasting benefits with this primer, but zero of the pore filling. I am disappointed by this! For $10 I would rather save my money and grab a primer that gives me all of the benefits in one product. The primer does not even make a mattifying claim, and it definitely dulls down dewy foundations. Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.
