When it comes to the Physicians Formula Butter Believe It Foundation, you hear a lot of chatter that is both good and bad. My curiosity is heightened, much like yours, leading me to conduct a detailed review with a wear test. It is a bit pricey when we think of drugstore makeup, so I want you to have all of the facts before you drop your cash.

Details & Claims

I am starting my review by discussing where you can buy the Physicians Formula Butter Believe It Foundation. Most retailers that sell drugstore makeup, and more specifically the brand, do carry this foundation. My bottle comes directly from Physicians Formula, in which their shade matching tool selected Light for me. The average retail price is $14.99.

Butter believe it or not (see what I did there), but the Butter Believe It Foundation does not have a lot to offer in terms of claims or directions. It claims to be an ultra-luxurious foundation and concealer that is infused with Murumuru Butter, Cupuaçu Butter, and Tucuma Butter. It should have an incredibly creamy texture that melts onto the skin to leave you with a natural, radiant glow. Also, it should be long-wearing and weightless with buildable coverage.

The only direction is to shake the bottle well before each use.

Swatches & Shades

Next, I have an image that I obtained from Maquibeauty to showcase Physicians Formula Butter Believe It Foundation swatches. I only own one shade, so I cannot effectively portray the shade range to you. This foundation comes in 12 shades, which is really quite poor. Sometimes brands do this to see how well the product sells, then they add more shades over time. Pair this with the fact that the foundation runs rather dark, you might have a tricky time finding a match for you.

In my own experience, Light appears very dark in the bottle, so much so that I was afraid to apply the product. However, it is only a hair darker than my skin tone, so I can get away with it without needing to add a lightening medium. I know that people do struggle with the shades. I recommend using the online shade matching tool, and perhaps shopping this foundation in-person if you are unsure.

Review & Wear Test

When I test a foundation, I always use my everyday products that I am highly familiar with, this way I can see how the foundation performs.

First, I have remarks on application. It does have a thin and lightweight formula that reminds me of a BB Cream, CC Cream, or even a tinted moisturizer. You absolutely need to shake the foundation before each use, as the formula separates.

It has a buildable medium to high-medium coverage. The famous butter scent is present, but it is not overbearing, and it does not linger during the day. The finish of this foundation is satin, but it leans closer to being dewy, which is in stark contrast to the elf Cosmetics Camo CC Cream.

With this being said, it looks skin-like. Once you powder it, it becomes completely matte and looks more heavy, thus losing that skin-like property.

Next is my wear test with a rating. At the end of a full day of wear, I only see normal wear and tear. For me, this means some separation around the nose and chin, as well as settling into smile lines. All foundation does that on me, so I cannot factor that in. I still say that powdering this foundation makes it look a bit heavy, but it is not bad. Some oils do peak through on the t-zone, but it is rather controlled with little to no shine.

I conclude that most skin types can probably enjoy this foundation. If you have oily or combination skin, you might want to utilize more powder than someone with dry skin, within reason.

Rating: ★★★★☆

A negative is the poor shade range, and the current shades run rather dark. This is a foundation that I can happily use every day in my routine until the bottle is gone, and I will never feel annoyed by it. Have you fallen into the Butter collection obsession? Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.

  1. Hello there! I know this is kinda off topic but I was wondering if you knew where I could find a captcha plugin for my comment form? I’m using the same blog platform as yours and I’m having trouble finding one? Thanks a lot!

    1. Hi Marti! I have Google recaptcha V3 installed. I don’t use a plugin for it. It will give you instructions on installing the code. This is great because the more plugins that you have, the slower your website runs.
