wet n wild 2021 New Products

I do a blog post every year covering wet n wild’s new products. Usually I am hard at work starting mid to end December on the content, and then again at New Years. This year is completely different as I wait around for the products to be released and struggle to get everything (more on that later). Alas, I now have everything from the wet n wild 2021 new products. In this post I will begin by discussing my thoughts and experience, as well as where to buy. After that, I am doing detailed reviews with swatches, claims, and star ratings, as I have used everything. Near the end of the post I have three full-face of wet n wild makeup looks using these new products, as well as special product comparisons. The goal of this post is to assist you in determining what you want to purchase, and what you want to avoid.

General Notes

Before getting into the actual wet n wild 2021 new products review, I have some notes to share. I have been noticing wet n wild is getting very lax when it comes to announcing, promoting, and making products available for the past year. In December, wet n wild only put the eyeshadow palettes, mascara, and eyelash curler on their website. In stalking the internet, I found the other items myself in January. There was no announcement about what was being released and when.

This 2021 release may just be the smallest one they are doing in recent years. In some ways, I am glad for that, because these posts often go on forever.

I find it ironic that the Impossible Primer is impossible to find. The product listing is showing online for Ulta, Walmart, and Amazon, but it appears it was uploaded as sold out. After several weeks, I was able to buy it online from Target. Ulta and Amazon finally has it, too.

I have to assume that any coloricon palettes that were not reformulated for this launch are being discontinued, which would include the classic Comfort Zone palette, and that breaks my heart.

Where to Purchase

Products are slowly being placed on wet n wild’s website. As of this writing, they have the the eyeshadow palettes, the eyelash curler, the mascara, the brow products, two primers, concealer, tinted hydrator, and the lippies. As time goes on, more may appear.

The full line can be found on Ulta’s website, with the exception of the coloricon 5-pan Palettes in Sundaze and My Lucky Charm. I am not sure about in-store Ulta as there are none in my area.

All of the products are on Walmart’s website, but you cannot purchase them online or do online pickup. Their website will simply state which nearby stores carry the products, but you do have to shop in-store to get them. Products can vary store to store, but I typically can find everything except for the primers and Tinted Veil.

Products appear to be slowly popping up on Amazon and Target. Walgreens typically throws its hat in the ring, but so far I only saw some eyeshadow palettes and mascara in-store only. Ultimately, I recommend going the Ulta route. I would not be surprised if all wet n wild retailers (Walmart, Target, Ulta, Amazon, wetnwildbeauty.com, and Walgreens) get all of the products over time.

I miss the days where wet n wild put everything on their website. Considering the current situation of events, we should have the option to order everything online for safety issues. But, they keep making it more difficult to find their products, sending me on a wild goose chase in order to make these posts for you.

wet n wild 2021 New Products

coloricon 10-pan Shadow Palettes

The first items in this wet n wild 2021 new products review are the coloricon 10-pan Shadow Palettes. There are four palettes, and the shades are not named. You can find the numbered shades on the back of the package. You may recall in 2018 they discontinued all of their eight-pan palettes, reformulated them, turned them into 10-pan palettes, and updated the packaging. Here in 2021 they are doing that again. The new formulation is vegan, but they still have 10 shades. Nude Awakening is a palette that has now survived three facelifts and reformulations, but the other three palettes are brand new.

I find that the quality of this new vegan formulation is exactly what we love and expect from wet n wild. The shadows are super easy to build, blend, and work with, and the pigmentation is awesome. The mattes are soft and buttery, and not chalky. You can use the metallics and shimmers wet or dry.

For the most part, the shadows are consistent. You may find a shade or two in each palette that produces a bit of kick up, a shimmer that does not swatch or apply as well as it should, or a matte that does not feel as soft and buttery as the rest. Otherwise, I am enjoying these palettes very much.

Claims: These eyeshadows are richly pigmented with a buttery-smooth formula. The finishes are matte, satin, shimmer, and metallic. Additionally, these should be long-lasting with soft-glide application and seamless blending.

coloricon 5-pan Shadow Palettes

Second are the coloricon 5-pan Shadow Palettes. There are six palettes, four of which are brand new. Walking On Eggshells is a drugstore classic that has survived all of the changes over the years. We first got Petalette in 2018. This new packaging is reminiscent of the Natasha Denona mini palettes or the elf Cosmetics Bite Size Eyeshadows. Just like with the 10-pan palettes, the shades are numbered on the back without names, and these are vegan reformulations.

To provide you with a quick history lesson, these small palettes started out with three shades. In the 2018 reformulation and repackaging, they went to four shades. With this 2021 update, they now have five shades. That means your classic Walking on Eggshells palette now has five shades instead of three! Anyway, my review for these 5-pan palettes is exactly the same as that above for the 10-pan palettes.

Claims: same as those for the 10-pan palettes.

High On Lash Eyelash Curler

Third is the High On Lash Eyelash Curler. In some ways, I do believe an eyelash curler is what it is. I do agree with the claims that it grabs every lash and is completely comfortable to use. All of my lashes are effectively curled, and the design and color of the curler itself is nice. This is a perfectly good eyelash curler to use.

Claims: This product is easy to use. It grabs every lash no matter your eye shape. The bouncy silicone provides comfort.

Big Poppa Mascara in Blackest Black

Fourth is the Big Poppa Mascara in Blackest Black (the only shade currently offered). I am not a fan of wet n wild mascara, but Big Poppa is their best one to date, even better than the Bad Bitch Lift mascara that was a limited edition collaboration with Bretman Rock. This mascara features an hourglass wand, which we typically see with top mascaras on the market. The formula is somewhere between wet and dry, and does not contain fibers. I wish it grabbed the lashes on the inner corner a bit better, but it is not the worst. I do see some length, volume, and some thickness, but not to the point that I am adding it onto my favorite mascaras of all time list. This mascara does hold a curl. It can stand to separate lashes better. When it is time to remove this mascara, it comes right off without any hassles, even though it lasts all day.

Claims: This mascara delivers outrageous length, volume, and thickness. The lashes should remain lifted. Over 500 bristles grip every lash with an hourglass-shaped wand.

megalast Incognito All-Day Full Coverage Concealer

Fifth in this wet n wild 2021 new products review is the megalast Incognito All-Day Full Coverage Concealer. There are 21 shades in the range, and mine is Fair Beige. The claims and description sound a lot like elf Cosmetic’s Camo Concealer, but it is very different. If you enjoy wet n wild’s photofocus concealer line, you will like this concealer, as it really appears to be the same. This concealer is creamy, full coverage, lightweight, and blends like a dream. It does last all day with a matte finish that is not dry at all. It works great with their new Tinted Skin Veil, but you can wear it with any foundation or alone. The applicator is a flat doe foot, which is the same from their past products such as liquid eyeshadows or their Color Correctors.

Claims: This concealer has a matte finish with medium-to-full coverage. It is lightweight and ultra-long lasting with luxurious application. It should be richly pigmented while blending seamlessly for all-day wear.

barefocus Tinted Hydrator Tinted Skin Veil

Next is the barefocus Tinted Hydrator Tinted Skin Veil. There are 12 shades, and mine is Fair. Honestly, the shade range is a shame, but that is always how it seems to go for tinted hydrators. I consider this to be more of a BB cream or tinted moisturizer in terms of texture and formulation. The claims are 100% true. You can build this product as much as you like and it never looks heavy or cakey, as the formula itself is thin and lightweight. You can get it up to medium coverage with a satin finish, but it will also take on the finish or whatever primer or other products that you are using.

I have tested this product with all of the new 2021 primers, and also with a primer that I know very well, which is the wet n wild Rose Water Drop Primer.

Most notably, this product is very skin like! Once I add powder, somehow it becomes even more skin like! It is a match made in heaven when paired with wet n wild’s Translucent Loose Setting Powder, and I am excited to test it with other powders. Eight hours into wear, this product looks beautiful, and does not show normal signs of wear and tear on my face. It does not separate around my nose, and barely sinks into my smile lines. It does allow natural oils to come through on the t-zone, but it looks fresh and healthy. You can see significant oil around my nose, but nothing that cannot be fixed with a little touch-up of powder. At the 11 hour mark of wear, I do see normal breakdown, but who wears their makeup that long on the regular?

If you were a big fan of their cushion foundation, and got crushed when they discontinued it, I recommend giving this product a try. Many of the ingredients are the same, but it is not a dupe, just similar.

I cannot wait to try this product out with my bullet-proof routine as well. I can see myself wearing this even for special events, particularly if my acne is not acting up, since this is only sheer to medium coverage.

Claims: This tinted hydrator provides a buildable, sheer-to medium coverage with a semi-matte finish. It will also nourish and hydrate the skin for a healthy glow.

Rating: ★★★★★

With my acne really acting up, this is a great chance for you to see the coverage, specifically on my forehead. This photo also evidences how smooth and skin-like this product is. I never use filters!

Cloud Pout Marshmallow Lip Mousse

Here are all 13 shades of the Cloud Pout Marshmallow Lip Mousse. I want to start my review with a lesson on what not to do with these lippies, before I get into what I really think.

I find that orange lip colors, specifically corals, can be temperamental on the lips because they like to be patchy and difficult to build. The first time that I tried this lip mousse, I went with the shade Sugar-Hollic. I wanted to see if I could build it up to full coverage, and I ended up doing about five passes on the lips. This caused the product to feel sticky on the lips, and it started balling up and otherwise collecting on my inner lip. If you wiped it off, it just kept happening. The feeling was horrible, and made my physically angry. At the end of the day it settled into the fine lines of my lips horribly. I do dispute the claim of building these up for saturated color.

The moral of the story is, go light with this product. I recommend lining your lips first, then applying a swipe of color onto your bottom lip. Next, rub your lips together. Then, go in with another coat on the top and bottom lip. Two coats is fine, and a third is passable. By doing this, the results are night and day, which changed my opinion.

This product smells like marshmallows and is lightweight. You can build it up to a low-medium coverage easily, but it is not full coverage. That is why I recommend a lip liner so that you can get a defined line, and sometimes the sheer to dark contrast is lovely. The formula is so unique in that you can clearly see it is matte right off the bat, but it also has a bit of a glossy shine. As time goes on, whether you eat or drink, or do not, that slight shine goes away to be fully matte, and the product will gracefully fade until it looks more like a stain on the lips. With that being said, it does not dry fully down, so it will transfer, but it is also comfortable. No, it will not settle into fine lines when you apply with a light hand.

Claims: The formula is buildable and blendable to deliver a lightweight feel with a soft-matte finish. Fine lines should be smoothed with a blurred and soft-focus look. The scent is sweet marshmallow and the ingredients nourish and moisturize the lips. You can blend these for a diffused look, or build for fully saturated color.

Glass Correct Primer in Green

Here is the Glass Correct Primer in Green. I have never tried a green color correcting primer that has diminished my redness, and that is true here. How is that even possible when you are sheering the primer out as you apply it to the skin? But, this product does leave you with a very shiny finish, which is the whole point of glass skin. It leaves the skin feeling tacky and ready for makeup application. Makeup does apply normally over top, and you can see the shine through the makeup. Once you apply powder, the effect is gone. Makeup wears just fine during the day, and all I see is normal wear and tear.

Claims: This Primer corrects redness for glowing skin. It leaves a glass-like finish without a shiny or greasy look. Your makeup should last longer.

Rating: ★★★★☆

I do not normally show my face with only primer applied, because you usually cannot see anything happening. Since this primer is supposed to give glass skin, I do want to show it. Please do not mind my worst ever acne breakout, but it does give us the opportunity to see how there is still redness around the acne, plus my typical red nose is still a thing. You can clearly see the shine.

Glass Correct Primer in Yellow

Pressing on, I have the Glass Correct Primer in Yellow. My review for this product is exactly the same as that on the Green primer above, because the only difference is the actual color of the primer. I will skip to remarking on the yellow tone. I am not sure if anything is being brightened, but I think I am the wrong candidate when it comes to looking for dullness correction.

Claims: This primer brightens and corrects dullness for glowing skin. It leaves a glass-like finish without a shiny or greasy look. Your makeup should last longer.

Rating: ★★★★☆

Again, here is what the primer looks like on my skin.

Prime Focus Impossible Primer

Pressing on with the wet n wild 2021 new products review, I have the Prime Focus Impossible Primer. It dispenses cloudy, as if it is a clear primer with milky white stuff in it, and it is thick. Once you warm it up in between your fingers and spread it over the skin, it feels very hydrating, yet it does mattify the skin. Your skin is left feeling smooth, and virtually not tacky. It does nothing for the severe pores on my nose, so I will still need to use an actual pore-filling primer. Honestly, I did not notice any special blurring or Photoshop effects going on. Makeup applies normally over this primer. By the end of the day I mostly see normal wear and tear, with slight separation around the nose. For my oily t-zone I see minor oil around the nose but not on it, as well as on the forehead. The matte properties are still evident, and the skin is super smooth.

If you have been reading this blog for at least a minute, you know my favorite primer is Smashbox’s Photo Finish as part of my bullet-proof makeup routine. I then discovered the elf Cosmetics+ Matte Oil Control Primer, which is pretty much a dupe on my skin. I think this wet n wild primer will join those ranks, and I am excited to keep playing with it!

Claims: This primer has the ability to hydrate and mattify the skin at the same time while controlling shine and not drying out the skin. It features a bouncy, silicone-like texture without silicone. The appearance of pores and fine lines will be blurred for a flawless, soft-focus look.

Brow-sessive Brow Pencil

Next is the Brow-sesive Brow Pencil. There are three shades, and mine is Dark Brown. This is your typical sharpenable drugstore brow pencil. I appreciate the spoolie on the one end, but the shade range can stand to be expanded. The formula is a bit waxy, but it gets the job done to meet its claims. I still prefer a non-waxy pencil, and I am more likely to reach for wet n wild’s retractable options.

Claims: This pencil fills, defines, and shapes your brows with soft and buildable color.

Brow-sessive Brow Shaping Gel

The last item in this wet n wild 2021 new products review is the Brow-sessive Brow Shaping Gel. There are three shades, and mine is Brown. Again, I would like to see a better shade range, but at least Clear works for everyone, as all you give up is being able to tint the brows. I find that this product meets its clams. It does hold brow hairs in place all day and they do not feel crunchy, rather, the hold is flexible. The spoolie is tiny, reminiscent of other famous brow gels on the market, such as Benefit Gimme Brow and Essence Make Me Brow, and is easy to control. I get good tint from Brown, but I do pair it with a filling product first.

Claims: This light gel-wax formula provides natural looking brows that are not stiff and will not flake. It leaves a soft, flexible hold. The tiny brush is mess-proof and delivers right amount of product.

Makeup Looks

To enrich my wet n wild 2021 new products review, I am doing three full-face of wet n wild makeup looks. While there are 10 eyeshadow palettes total, 10 looks would be overkill. Instead, I am doing three makeup looks featuring each of the three primers. From there, I will select an eyeshadow palette and lip combo, while also using everything else from this launch, and filling in what I need to complete a full face. A note here- I do use eyeshadow shades on the eye that are labeled not for use around the eye. Always follow the instructions on the package.

Look #1: Sunset

I love orange makeup, so I had to do a sunset inspired makeup look. I am having way too much fun with the orange pigments on the eye, and the bright coral lip. Nude blush compliments everything well here, paired with super bronzed features.

For the eyeshadow look, apply shade four onto the crease and bring it below the under eye. Next, apply shade two dry onto the eyelid, over top of the Nyx Glitter Primer. Then, apply shade three onto the outer-v, and bring it below the eye closer to the lower lash line. Use shade five to highlight the brow bone and inner corner.

You can clearly see the lip color collecting around my inner lip, which I discuss under what not to do with these lippies.

Look #2: Romance

This romantic look truly evidences the strong pigment of the eyeshadows. Mixing the oranges and deep pinks is a cross between a sunset and pure romance. This is my favorite look! You can pair it with a lighter pink or even mauve lip, but I went a tad bit darker this time.

For the eyeshadow look, apply shade four into the crease, and bring it down below the eye. Next, deepen the crease with shade one, and also bring that below the eye. Then, apply shade six onto the eyelid. After, apply shade seven onto the outer corner, and I did not bring it into the crease at all. You can also apply shades six and seven onto the lower lash line. Finish the look by highlighting the brow bone and inner corner with shade 10.

Look #3: Smokeshow

This final look in my wet n wild 2021 new products review is like the reprise of the look that I did with one of the Star Lux collection palettes, right down to the nude lip. I used the browns and super dark green to create a simple smokey eye. You can also do a traditional smokey eye with the grays and black in this palette. Or, you can do something nude or sparkly. There is a lot of options. I love a nude lip with these kind of looks, plus the dramatic eye balances out with the lip.

For the eyeshadow look, start by applying shade nine onto the crease, and bring it below the eye. Next, darken the crease with shade two, and also bring it below the eye. Then, pack shade one onto the eyelid, and bring it down to the lower lash line. You can create a smudgy eyeliner/wing look with shade six, or just use a pencil eyeliner like I did. Finish the look by highlighting the brow bone and inner corner with shade 10.

Bonus! Comparisons

I always like to include product comparisons in my wet n wild posts. This is the wet n wild 2021 new products edition! I am comparing reformulated palettes to their past versions, two potential repeat/renamed/repackaged products, and a potential high-end dupe. Should you save or spend on these? Let’s find out!

Nude Awakening 2021 Version vs All Previous Versions

The 2018 and 2021 versions of Nude Awakening are incredibly similar in the swatches, and they are both much better than pre 2018. I say, you may want to buy the 2018 or 2021 version if you want a better palette than pre 2018. If you already have the 2018 version, you may not need the 2021 version, unless having a vegan palette is important to you. The shades themselves have not really changed over the years.

Petalette 2021 Version vs 2018

The transition shade from the 2018 Petalette has transformed from a purple-pink shade to more of a light brown shade in the 2021 version. Otherwise, they are virtually the same. The 2021 version may be a hair bit better.

Walking On Eggshells 2021 Version vs All Previous Versions

Walking On Eggshells has stayed highly consistent over the years when it comes to the colors and the swatches. What you end up buying really comes down to how many colors you want to have in your palette, keeping in mind the pre 2018 palette is discontinued, and I expect the 2018 palette to be soon.

Call Me Sunshine vs Urban Decay Naked Honey

When I first laid eyes on Call Me Sunshine, I knew that I already owned this color story. This is wet n wild’s drugstore dupe of Urban Decays’ Naked Honey. Of course, Naked Honey has 12 shades, while Call Me Sunshine has 10. wet n wild has taken the 10 best shades from Naked Honey and put them in their palette. All of the shades in Call Me Sunshine can be found in Naked Honey. I do note that Urban Decay’s eyeshadow quality is slightly better than wet n wild’s. However, Call Me Sunshine is a perfectly good alternative if you are looking to save money and get the look for less.

coloricon Brow Pencil vs Brow-sessive Brow Pencil

The ingredients completely different, but the products are visually similar. They are not repeats. I am not including a picture here because I completely used my coloricon pencil up a while ago.

ultimatebrow Mascara vs Brow-sessive Brow Shaping Gel

The final comparison in this wet n wild 2021 new products review that I want to do is a battle of the brow gels. The ingredients completely different, but the products are visually similar. ultimatebrow has a much larger spoolie. They are not repeats.

Conclusion

We are at the end of my wet n wild 2021 new products review. As is typical wet n wild fashion, these products knock it out of the park and are of high quality. The Tinted Veil is my new obsession, the eyeshadows are great, and you can trust the primers and concealers. Even though I am critical with my star reviews, there are no bad products here, and I will continue to use everything. Over the course of the year you will see many of these items again as I do more wet n wild makeup looks in blog posts. Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.
