When it comes to wet n wild holiday makeup, we are used to them releasing their everyday products into gift sets commonly found in drugstores, plus a few new odds and ends like a brush set or eyeshadow palette. This year they are doing things a little bit different with a limited edition collection. The wet n wild Star Lux holiday collection is packed with glitters, shimmers, and metalics, which we commonly associate with the holidays in general. In the words of wet n wild, this collection brings fairytale magic to life with ethereal finishes and glitters. I am reviewing the entire collection, along with swatches, star ratings, full details, and three full-face of wet n wild makeup looks wearing this collection.

Buying Options

The wet n wild Star Lux holiday collection can be purchased on their website, or from Ulta in-stores. Each product needs to be purchased individually, as there are no full-collection box sets available.

Star Lux Lip Glosses

The first products in the wet n wild Star Lux holiday collection are the Star Lux Lip Glosses. Each time that I give a lip gloss review I always provide the disclaimer that I am personally not a lip gloss wearer, but I will not allow that to take precedence over my honest review. wet n wild’s formula always amazes me because it is not heavy, sticky, or thick. Rather, it almost feels like a lightweight lip oil on the lips. These smell like cupcakes, or at least some sort of desert. Comet Me Bro is my favorite!

Claims: The formula delivers long-lasting moisture while the added Vitamin E provides antioxidative protection for the skin. You will get a mirror-like shine with multi-dimensional glitter.

Star Lux Lip Scrub

Second are the Star Lux Lip Scrubs. On first use it takes a bit to work through the outer layer, so it will feel like you are applying lip balm without any scrub. Keep working at it, as you will reach a gentle exfoliant. These do effectively remove dead, dry skin, and I recommend using them before applying your makeup. I exfoliate my lips every night before bed, and I will definitely use these completely up. Stick exfoliators are my favorite because they are mess-free. You can simply wipe your lips with a tissue after each use to remove the exfoliant. These smell great!

Planet Sugar Cookie: This lip scrub is brown-toned and smells like coffee to me, although it probably is intentioned to smell like cookies.
Sugar Plum Galaxy: This lip scrub is pink-toned and smells like sugar plums.

Claims: Application should be mess free. The scrubs apply like a lip balm to easily slough away dead skin cells to reveal a glowing, healthy-looking pout while keeping lips moisturized.

Star Lux Starlighter Highlighting Brush

Third is the Star Lux Starlighter Highlighting Brush. This is definitely a Pro Line brush with a limited edition handle. Below I have a side-by-side shot of all of my wet n wild highlighting brushes to evidence that this one really is no different from the others. If you own any of their previous highlighter brushes, you do not need to buy this one, unless you are a collector. With all of that being said, I love this brush, as I use the Bretman Rock version every time that I do my makeup. It applies highlighter right where I want it in a diffused way, and this brush is of top quality.

Claims: The slender brush has a light, tapered tip to give you a precise highlight while diffusing color and blending seamlessly.

Star Lux Glitter Highlighter Duos

Fourth are the Star Lux Glitter Highlighter Duos. We first saw this style of packaging with their megaglo Blushlighters released in their 2020 new products. On the left side of the palettes we have a clear gel topper with fine colored glitter in it. There is chunky star glitter on top of the gel itself. I recommend using your finger to apply the gel onto the face in a patting motion. Your finger will mush the stars into the gel, which will cause them to stick to your face. The stars will not stick on their own.

On the right side of the palettes we have a standard powder highlighter that is very metallic. Unfortunately, the gold and copper shades are too dark for pale skin, but the white shade is a winner. The glitter gels are appropriate for all skin tones, and they perfectly compliment the powder highlighter shades.

I am giving these three out of five stars due to the dark pigmentation, and I do not think people will be crazy about the gel toppers.

Claims: Each duo features a multi-dimensional pearl-infused highlighter, and a glitter gel topper. The formula blends effortlessly with a soft glide application that lifts and adds instant radiance for a full on strobe effect.

Star Lux Shadow Quads

The last products in the wet n wild Star Lux holiday collection are the Star Lux Shadow Quads. We first encountered this format of palette in the Fantasy Makers Neon collection. Each quad features pressed glitters and standard eyeshadows. I find that powders apply to the eye beautifully in standard wet n wild fashion, but they do not swatch as well with the finger. I know that the claims say there are matte and shimmer shadows, but every shadow has some sort of shimmer or glitter in it, even if it is slight. There are no true mattes.

You must be curious about the glitters. The glitters are equivalent to the coloicon Glitter Singles, the whole Vaseline mixed with glitter situation. However, wet n wild is doing a better job with this formula than they did with Fantasy Makers Neon. The formula is a lot more consistent and creamy for maximum impact.

I do not keep a list of favorite eyeshadow shades, but I am living for the peach shade in the Let’s Get Astrophysical palette! It is super pretty on the eye, with a gold glitter mixed in.

Claims: Each palette features a mix of matte and shimmer finishes along with self-adhering pressed glitters. The pigmentation should be rich and easy to blend with a soft glide application. Everything has a smooth formula for optimum texture and comfortable, long-lasting wear.

Wearing the Collection

To continue my review of the wet n wild Star Lux holiday collection, I am doing three full-face of wet n wild makeup looks while using the Star Lux products. Each look is dedicated to a specific eyeshadow palette. By the end of the looks I will have used all of the eyeshadows and highlighters on the face, as well as three out of the five lip glosses.

When I did the Fantasy Makers Neon collection review, it was really difficult to work with the glitters and make them look good. Since that post, I got smart! You will see that in each of these looks I am using one non-wet n wild product, which is the Nyx Glitter Primer. This product is life changing! It dries down to be almost like a gentle glue, and the glitter will adhere to it and not transfer to other parts of the eye OR fall out on the face ALL DAY. The glitter sticks right down and gives you a lovely, even shine. I highly recommend applying the glitters using elf’s Silicone Glitter Applicator in a pressing motion. Sadly, that tool is discontinued, but if you own it, break it out now. In doing some research, Nyx has a Dual Silicone Applicator that should get the job done.

To summarize here, using a combo of the Nyx Glitter Primer AND the elf Silicone Glitter Applicator (or the Nyx version) will make your life so much easier, yielding beautiful results.

Look #1: Let’s Get Astrophysical

For the first look I am using the Let’s Get Astrophysical shadow palette. The pictures do not do it justice by any means! In the close-up of the eyeshadow, the glitter looks patchy and dispersed, but I promise you, my eyes are shining for miles. This look screams special occasion holiday to me, and I am obsessed. Look how juicy and full my lips appear to be with that lip gloss in Comet Me Bro, and the lip liner in Bare to Comment compliments the shade so well! I was not able to get the highlighter to shine much on camera, but the copper shade is incredibly too dark for my skin tone, which is painfully obvious on the tip of my nose. Ultimately, I love this look a lot, and I want to wear it again soon. Products used:

For the eyeshadow look, set the eyelid with the shimmer nude shade. Next, apply the peach shade in the crease, then bring it down along the lower lash line. Then, apply the Nyx Glitter Primer onto entire eyelid, avoiding the crease. Press the light pink glitter on 3/4 of the eyelid, and then press the dark pink glitter on the outer corner of the eyelid. Finish the look by highlighting the inner corner and brow bone with the shimmer nude shade. I am not wearing any eyeliner as I feel the glitter is enough, plus dragging eyeliner over glitter is not fun.

Look #2: Jupiter Recognize

In the second look we are really going all out with the glitter with the Jupiter Recognize shadow palette. The hues on the eye really look fall inspired. As you can see, layering the cream highlight over the powder works really well, and I like the random glitters on the high points of the cheeks. The gold highlighter is too dark for my skin, just like the copper shade. I am applying plenty of lip gloss and trying to blend the lip liner a bit with it. Products used:

For the eyeshadow look, set the eyelid with the Eyeshadow Single in Brulee. Next, apply the medium brown shade from the palette in the crease, and bring it down below the eye about a quarter across, but leave a space from the lower lash line. Now, apply the Nyx Glitter Primer onto the eyelid, avoiding the crease and outer corner. Also apply the primer to the lower lash line. Press the light gold glitter onto the eyelid, and then the copper glitter onto the lower lash line. Then, apply the dark brown shadow onto the outer-v and bring it down onto the lower lash line to meet the glitter.

Look #3: Earthday Suit

The last look that I am doing features the Earthday Suit shadow palette. It is dark and smokey and has me feeling like a celestial princess! Again, the photos do not do justice to the shine of the glitter. I want to use this palette again to do an extra smokey look with it. The highlighter shade is great for my skin tone, and the glitter gel topper adds a special touch. For the nude lip I blended the lip liner all over the lips, and then packed the lip gloss on. The lip contrasts with the dark eyes well. Products used:

For the eyeshadow look, start by setting the eyelid with the coloricon Eyeshadow Single in Brulee. Next, apply the brown shade into the crease, and bring it down below the eye about a quarter across, but leave a space from the lower lash line. Now, apply the emerald green onto the eyelid. Then, apply the blue/black shade onto the outer v. Time for the Nyx Glitter Primer! We will apply it onto the inner corner and bring it onto the lower lash line about a quarter of the way across, and also bring it up into the inner curve. Now, press the glitter over the primer. Finish the lower lash line by applying the emerald green in the center, and the blue/black on the outer quarter. Highlight the brow bone with the powder highlight from the Star Lux Glitter Highlighter Duo in Spacing Out.

In summary of the wet n wild Star Lux holiday collection, you will definitely be shining into the holidays. As I usually remark on these limited edition collections, these items are excellent for collectors. I am sure you can find use for the shadow palettes for general wear, but the glitter is definitely great for the holidays. I like the palettes much more than I thought I would. The lip scrubs are highly functional and practical, and I will use them up. If you are a lip gloss lover, you can never go wrong with wet n wild’s formula. The highlighter duos are not my cup of tea.
