Play! by Sephora October 2018 Review

With only a few boxes left this year it is time for my Play! by Sephora October 2018 review. October is a hard month for determining which way the box will go. It could be more fall themed, which would mean lots of hydrating products and darker hues, or it could be Halloween themed. Based upon the fact that this box is been dubbed “Scary Good Beauty,” I would say Sephora is leaning more towards Halloween. Sephora is not the place where you tend to buy paint pots, stencils, and body crayons that are typically used for Halloween makeup, so I would assume these products would be good base builders for your spooky look. We will not know until I cut into the seal and open the box.

First Aid Beauty Hello FAB Coconut Water Cream

The first product for this Play! by Sephora October 2018 review is a moisturizer from First Aid Beauty. It claims to hydrate, replenish, soften, smooth, and visibly plump. The formula is lightweight and does not contain oil. The cream is translucent and smells like coconuts. You are to apply a quarter-size amount to your clean face both in the morning and night.

Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum

The next product in my Play! by Sephora October 2018 review is a serum designed for use on the face and neck. I think that you get a fair amount of product in this deluxe sample, and I enjoy the luxury feel of products with droppers. I am shocked to find out that the full size retails for $80! This serum is oil-free and lightweight, much like the coconut moisturizer already mentioned. It is supposed to boost your skin’s radiance, even skin tone, hydrate, and minimize the appearance of dark spots. You are to apply a dime-size amount both in the morning and at night. The liquid is milky smells like natural, plant-based ingredients with a mild fragrance.

Benefit Gimme Brow+ Volumizing Eyebrow Gel in 03 Medium

I have already received a sample of Gimme Brow in a past box, but this one is the “plus” version. I have no idea what the difference between the original and the new plus version was, so I need to do research. As it turns out, there is not much difference! Benefit said that the ingredients in the old version did not live up to their standards so they made a few tweaks to provide a higher quality product. My favorite thing about Gimme Brow is the size of the wand and how you can get right up in there with your brows. Other than that, it does not really blow me away. Gimme Brow is a tinted brow gel that uses fibers to create full, yet defined brows. I would appreciate if Sephora would send me a darker shade but I think I can pull medium off.

Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray

Next in my Play! by Sephora October 2018 review is my third sample of All Nighter. Sephora already sent me one, and so did Urban Decay. I have two full sized bottles of this stuff because it is my favorite and holy grail setting spray. I love to completely douse my face in this stuff for all day, long-lasting wear. All Nighter claims to provide 16 hours of wear time. I know that I love this stuff without the need to sample.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Stick in Banana

I am really confused about how to use this product, based upon the description provided by Sephora in the box. They are calling this stuff a foundation, a highlight, and a contour. In doing research I know what is going on with this stick. Anastasia Beverly Hills released a Cream Stick Foundation line a few years ago, which features 26 foundation shades. As part of the same line and formula they created two contour shades and a banana highlight shade. Technically you can use the banana shade as your foundation if it works for your skin tone, but it is intended be a cream highlight. I am worried about the banana shade itself. I fear with my skin tone it will not be a suitable foundation or highlight since I am so pale. The best thing I can do is give it a whirl. The formula is creamy, blends easily with my finger, and dries down to a powder finish. ABH claims that this stick is buildable, high-pigment, and natural-looking. They provide hardly any product in this sample- I have the stick twisted all the way up in the picture!

Kat Von D Saint and Sinner Fragrances

The final products in this Play! by Sephora October 2018 review is a pair of fragrance samples that go hand-in-hand. The Saint and Sinner set is kind of like good versus evil, or dark versus light. Saint is a dreamy, romantic, and alluring fragrance which features floral notes, as well as vanilla and mandarin. Sinner is dark, sultry, and empowering with woody and earthy scents including orange blossom, cinnamon, and patchouli. I like the duo fragrance sample idea. I wonder how these would smell worn together?

It is time to share my parting thoughts at the end of this Play! by Sephora October 2018 review. I will say that you can use these products as part of your Halloween look if you so choose, but these are really everyday items that still work without being associated to a Halloween theme. My feelings are so-so about this box. Gimme Brow and All Nighter are not new to me, I am not a fan of stick makeup, and moisturizers are too common in Play! boxes. At the same time I did get core makeup products, and I like receiving more makeup than skincare and haircare. I will use the products in the box. What did you think about my Play! by Sephora October 2018 review? Are any of these items your go to’s? Let me know in the comments and until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.
