elf has repackaged and updated some OG shadows, along with making new palettes! Here I am testing the full elf Perfect 10 Eyeshadow Palette line to see where they stack up. I am swatching each palette and giving you example eye looks that I created in my day-to-day.
Details & Claims
First, let’s discuss where to buy the palettes. They are available from Amazon, Ulta, and elf’s website. Whenever I see them in stores, it is usually only a few of the palettes. There are eight to choose from and they are $10 each.
The palettes have a range of shimmers, mattes, and metallic glitter hybrids. They should be ultra-pigmented, blendable, and creamy for smooth application. Some of them have “new and improved” formulas. They should be perfet for shading, highlighting, and defining.
For an interesting note, all of the palettes in the black packaging are the “old” or original ones. They used to not have a clear window. When they changed to the packaging with a window, they were supposed to improve the formula, as well as add more shimmer. When I ordered these, I was expecting to get them in the once again changed packaging. Basically, the third iteration. I decluttered my old ones and everything. But, I got the “old” ones.
Swatches & Shades
You will note with the swatches that there are several shades that are similar to my skin tone so they will not show up. There are no shade names. Below you can see all of the swatches plus an eyeshadow look for each palette that I created during my daily routine.

Review
When it comes to the eyeshadows in the black packaging, I can see that the formula is somewhat improved, including the shimmers. However, they still are not on the same level as the ones in the most up to date packaging.
Yes, they work. You will have to dip your brush in several times to build up the pigment. Ultimately, I get a look that I like and I want them in my makeup collection.
The actual new palettes are awesome! They have so much pigmentation and boldness. I would love to see elf get all of the palettes on the same page now that they have a winning formula.
Despite the old vs. new battle, everything is easy to blend and to build. Nothing is patchy or dry. There is little to no kick up or fall out. Over the years, elf Cosmetics has come a long way with their eyeshadows. I will say, their best formula comes with their elf Bite Size Eyeshadows and I can tell they are on a higher level than these.

Shop The Palettes
The newest palettes in the colorful packaging work the best and are some of the most solid formulas given by the brand. If you end up with any in the black packaging, the older formula takes some extra TLC to build it up on the eye. Either way, you should enjoy making looks with this collection. Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.
