I know what you are thinking. Why on earth are you writing a NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream review if this line has been around since 2011? There is more to life than new releases, and we all can stand to appreciate old but good products more. I have been thinking about my ridiculous collection of these lippies, and the question washed over me- why have I not blogged about it before? There is no time like the present! This review is heavily detailed. It will answer all of your burning questions about this line, including some of the best swatches I have ever done, shade descriptions, and purchase options. By the end of this post, some new colors are going to creep their way into your makeup bag very soon. If you are itching for more top-notch drugstore finds (because this post will totally do that to you), I have some hidden gems from the drugstore, too.
NYX Soft Matte Lipstick Reviews
Purchase Options
Most drugstores that sell NYX cosmetics will carry the Soft Matte Lip cream both in-stores and online. To keep things simple and to not link you to a million places, all of my links and information is coming straight from NYX’s website.
How Much is NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream?
NXY sells the Soft Matte Lip Cream on their website for $6.50. If you purchase through a different retailer, the price typically hovers around $6.50, but it will vary.
Claims
Before doing a review, it is helpful to know the product claims. As taken from NYX’s website, the Soft Matte Lip Cream should provide a creamy burst of color that dries to a matte finish. The formula should be moussey and lightweight, yet durable. Your lips should remain soft and never dry.
Review
I do find that the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream lives up to its claims. It dries down to be fully matte in a matter of minutes, and it always feels comfortable on the lips. This formula is thin and lightweight, but it packs more pigment than you may expect. It is a buildable, medium to high medium coverage that sits on the borderline of full coverage. My lips never get crusty.
How Do You Apply NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream?
The product features a small, skinny doe foot applicator that is rounded with a slanted tip. It is recommend that you use the tip to first line your lips, and then fill them in. You can also use a lip primer and/or lip liner, if you so choose.
How Long Does NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream Last?
You can wear this product for six to eight hours with careful eating and drinking. A minor touch-up may be needed.
Does NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream Transfer?
This formula will transfer very little, and it will fade gracefully during the day, so you can touch it up without having it look heavy.
Does NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream Dry?
This product will dry down onto the lips fully to create the matte finish, but it has never dried my lips out, making it a prime qualifier for my list of the best non-drying liquid lipsticks from the drugstore.

If you are looking for the lipsticks to be swatched on the lips, Laura Leth has a lovely YouTube video for you featuring the lippie vault.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream The Vault II
What prompted this blog post is me remembering this crazy TJMaxx purchase that I made a few years ago. I purchased the Soft Matte Lip Cream Vault II on a whim, and I am still surprised that I spent $30 on it. Even though I love and recommend this formula, that is still a lot! This vault contains nearly every shade that NYX offers, in mini tubes. As far as I know, you cannot buy the vaults anymore, but I am sharing it because it is fun, generally speaking. You really cannot trust the color of the tube to match the actual product, which I will also say about the lip swatches on the back. But, I keep this collection in the original package so that I can cross-reference the tube to the swatch.

Conclusion
We are at the end of this NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream review. Any drugstore makeup aficionado will tell you that this line is a cult-favorite, and for good reason. A matte lip that is non-drying can be difficult to come by, even in current times. NYX was ahead of the game by several years in 2011 when they released this collection. The variety of hues available, comfortable wear, and strong pigmentation cannot be ignored. 10 years later they really have not discontinued their shades, rather, they have made smart color additions. I know these will be favorites for another 10 years and beyond. Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.

I can’t believe how many different colours there are!

Believe it or not, this is not every shade that they make! Nyx really is the lip authority and they need to be better acknowledged.
hey, you are the first one i found that mentions the color “dallas”, i cannot find it anywhere? I cant purchase the shade, cause i just cant find it anywhere. Any suggestions or information?
Hi Anita! Dallas is a discontinued shade. It’s possible it was excluse to the kit that I feature in this blog post, but, I’m not 100% certain on that being a fact. I did some searches but I’m not finding it from resellers. Usually, places like Poshmark, Mercari, Amazon, and ebay are good places to look for discontinued items. I’ve not seen this at discount retailers (TJMaxx, Gabe’s Marshalls, etc.). I hope that you find it one day, or a suitable dupe!
