The latest installment in my plaid series is here! In this look book I have six different outfits focusing on how to style a plaid kimono. I will use the words “kimono” and “cardigan” interchangeably, because at the end of the day, their function is the same. Kimonos are stellar for layering so that you can create an outfit that looks complicated, but really is not. I will show you how to incorporate different textures, jewelry, and details to create an aesthetic that is all your own. As always, you can shop all of my outfits and copy my looks. This will be my last plaid post in the series for a while, but rest assured I am not yet done. I have used this disclaimer a few times now, but my makeup is crazy in these pictures because I was also shooting Halloween makeup at the time.
Look #1: Texture play
The first outfit in how to style a plaid kimono can be considered “old,” but it is one of my favorites. Styling with textures is something I find great joy in, because the concept really elevates any look. The cardigan is cotton, paired with a crushed velvet cami, faux leather pants, suede booties, and a patent bag. As you already know, I love to rock plaid in a way that is grungy and full of attitude, as evidenced by this outfit. That statement necklace really steals the show and ties the entire outfit together!

Look #2: Moon magic
Second is a two-for-one tank top and cardigan/kimono deal. The tank top says “For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams.” To keep the moon theme going, a simple moon necklace is appropriate. Studded booties and an o-ring crossbody give the attitude that I am looking for.

Look #3: Fringe addiction
Third is a look that accomplishes grunge while being dressed up! This fringe hem plaid kimono is the star of the show, so I am layering it over a t-shirt dress. A simple way to add spice is the keyhole cutout on the dress itself, which is a minor level-up from being plain. The fringe accents on the tote bag tie into the kimono nicely. Heeled booties stay with the dressy theme. The statement earrings are the perfect accent piece.

Look #4: Earthy tones
Fourth is such a casual aesthetic. The cardigan, tank top, and necklace trio all came in a set, so the challenge here is to craft an outfit around theme. Taupe is a great color to pair with the navy blue and burgundy, hence the booties. A navy blue handbag ties into the blue on the cardigan. Distressed jeans add in that extra something. The entire outfit has a country vibe going on, and I am not mad about it!

Look #5: Red, black, and white
Fifth is just like outfit four, but the color scheme is red, black, and white. I am making this outfit more classy and less country with dark wash skinny jeans and knee high leather boots. The two-tone handbag adds fun rubber texture, but matches the cardigan painfully well.

Look #6: Picnic Check
The final look on how to style a plaid kimono is a lovely transitional weather option. I have a mock neck ribbed tee that I am layering under a full plaid kimono. You can also opt for a white shirt if black is not your jam. I want to glam this look up a bit and make it chic, so I am pairing distressed jeans with heeled sandals. Of course, you can try booties if it is too cold to expose your feet. The clutch is too perfect as the black and white matches the kimono flawlessly. Also, the plaid earrings are a 100% match to the kimono. I would definitely pair a fedora with this outfit, even if you forego the hat on the other outfits. This is a style blogger approved aesthetic!

Conclusion
We are at the end of my look book on how to style a plaid kimono. All six of these options bring a different flavor. From dressing up, to dressing down in a super causal way, and even falling somewhere in between, there is a look that everyone can appreciate. Layering, and thus playing with textures, is so easy with cardigans and kimonos. Plaid always gives me grungy vibes, and I like to play those up as much as possible. Outfit number one is definitely my favorite! Later this year I am returning with more plaid, and I have so many more outfit posts to share across the board. Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.
