I went to a private school when I was a child, so I grew up wearing all sorts of uniforms. Does the word “jumper” brew up some feelings for you like it does for me? As an adult I get a great kick out of wearing what is dubbed as preppy school girl outfits. We can buy skirts, jumpers, dresses, and more that resemble or are inspired by what we wore as kids, but with the temperature kicked up. I really like making these outfits grungy and attitude packed. In this look book I have three outfits to share in an effort to inspire your own looks. Somehow, all of these looks involve plaid, but I am not mad about that. These are great outfits to wear if you are going back to university, or just because.
Look #1: Plaid skater dress
The first outfit from my preppy school girl outfits features a red plaid skater dress. My favorite feature of this dress is the cutouts on the back because the strategic placement makes your back look really good. Overall, this dress is complimentary to the body. I love how the bottom hem blows in the wind. I am paring this dress with a necklace that features red and black stones that match the dress perfectly. The handbag adds so much attitude with the metal piece that I am calling a bull bar. I am finishing the look with some black leather sandals to match the handbag material, but the zipper detail is also grungy.

Look #2: Plaid pinafore dress
Second is my favorite outfit in this post, but I adore all of them dearly. This plaid pinafore dress screams to be layered, and you have so many options to do so. Since I am wearing this for fall, I am going for a long sleeve shirt, but an off the shoulder option is a playful choice. How can I not pair combat boots with this outfit?! The chunky chain necklace gives us a bit of sparkle, but ties us back to the chain on the mini backpack. Mini backpacks are like the height of school grunge. I can even see including a leather or denim jacket with this outfit for extra style points.

Look #3: Plaid tennis skirt
The final look from my preppy school girl outfits is the one that I can most see in an academic setting. If you look closely at the skirt you can see a thin, burgundy stripe throughout the design, which is why I am picking a burgundy sweater. I like that the sweater is cropped because the skirt has lovely button details at the top. When you were a kid you probably would not wear fishnet tights with your school uniform, so I am doing it here because I can- there are no rules! Layered necklaces fill the empty space on the sweater well. Heeled booties maintain the dressy feel. The mini faux fur handbag is the extra touch that provides texture and cuteness overload.

Conclusion
We are at the end of my three preppy school girl outfits. I hope that they conjure up some good memories from your past if you had to wear uniforms, but also inspire you to try the look as a stylish adult. These outfits are so versatile because you control how sassy and sweet or dark and grungy that you look, but I cling to the attitude because it is starkly the opposite of having a dress code. You can wear these outfits if you are going back to school in the fall or for any purpose that you can dream up. Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.
