You might recall later in 2020 I reviewed the two full-size Morphe x Jaclyn Hill palettes, and they are awesome! I definitely wanted to get my hands on the mini palettes, and I finally have all four. As a lover of eyeshadow and a color junkie, these palettes are absolute must-haves. You might know this collection by another name, which is “The Vault,” but I am calling this a Morphe Jaclyn Hill Eyeshadow Palette Collection as I bought mine separately. I have swatches, shade descriptions, and two eyeshadow looks per palette. Are these just as good as the big palettes? We shall find out! Now, I know that both the brand Morphe and Jaclyn Hill herself are highly controversial, and that makes me feel like a disclaimer is necessary here. Buying these palettes represents my love of makeup, and I want no part in the drama.

Purchase Options

I am starting this Morphe Jaclyn Hill Eyeshadow Palette Collection review with purchase options. Each palette can be purchased separately, or at one point in time it was in a set called Morphe Jaclyn Hill Vault. If you prefer other sources, you can check out Amazon or Selfridges.

The individual palettes go for $16 each, where as the Morphe Jaclyn Hill Vault price is no longer known as the Vault is discontinued.

Eyeshadow Looks

Look 1

To recreate this look, start by applying Mugshot in the crease and bring it down below the eye. Next, apply Rush on the eyelid. Then, apply Secret on the outer-v and connect it down to the lower lash line. Additionally, apply Rush to the lower lash line. There is no suitable highlight shades for my fair skin tone.

Look 2

To recreate this look, start by applying Alert in the crease and bring it down below the eye. Next, apply Siren on the outer and inner corners, leaving a blank space in the middle, as we are doing a halo eye. Now, apply Siren along the lower lash line. Then apply Lolli dry with your finger onto the center of the eyelid. I recommend to soften the edges of Lolli with the with the brush that was used to apply Siren onto the eyelid for a seamless blend. Again, there is no suitable highlight shades for my fair skin tone.

Eyeshadow Looks

Look 1

To recreate this eye look, start by applying Prowl to the crease, and bring it down below the eye. To really diffuse Prowl while also adding dimension, blend Smooth Criminal into Prowl using a smaller crease brush, and also bring that below the eye. Blending some of Smooth Criminal just above Prowl in the crease also helps. Next, apply Coin onto the eyelid dry. Then, apply Top Secret on the outer-v and bring it down below the lower lash line. Highlight the brow bone and inner corner with Gilt Trip.

Dark Magic

About the Palette

The last palette in this Morphe Jaclyn Hill Eyeshadow Palette Collection review is Morphe x Jaclyn Hill Dark Magic. This is the perfect palette for doing a smokey eye in a variety of colors.

One thing I noticed right away is how much this palette reminds me of an old and discontinued Urban Decay palette called Smoked! I loved it back in the day and used it often. Part of the shades in Dark Magic can be found in Smoked, while some are brand new. I wish Dark Magic contained a dupe for Rockstar from Smoked, as it is my favorite shade.

Eyeshadow Looks

I am one of those dorks that keeps the instruction books that come with eyeshadow palettes. The Urban Decay Smoked palette has one, and it taught me a lot about doing smokey eyes, and eyeshadow in general. I used the book to make the next two eyeshadow looks, which is where I get the look names. I modified the instructions to work with the Dark Magic palette, and also to suit my own personal tastes. These came out great! I am so pleased. The looks transport me back to 2013 for sure.

Look 1 Midnight

To recreate this look, start by setting the eyelid with Poof. I applied extra Poof from the crease to the brow bone to give a nice base to blend on later. Now, apply Temptress with a pencil brush along the upper and lower lash line, then use a blending brush to diffuse the edges. Next, apply Busted with an eyeshadow brush onto the entire eyelid, including going over top of Temptress on the upper lash line. Then, take a crease brush and apply Busted into the crease, really giving a diffused look. Busted can also be applied along the lower lash line below Temptress, well blended out. Next, apply Temptress to the outer-v, but make sure you can still see the rich blue of Busted in the crease. Highlight the brow bone and inner corner with Power Cut.

Look 2 Iconic with Color

To recreate this look, start by setting the eyelid with Poof. I applied extra Poof from the crease to the brow bone to give a nice base to blend on later. Now, apply Temptress with a pencil brush along the upper and lower lash line, then using a blending brush to diffuse the edges. Next, apply Trickery along the lower lash line blending it into Temptress, making sure the edges are blended and diffused. Then, apply Trickery with an eyeshadow brush onto the entire eyelid, including going over top of Temptress on the upper lash line. Now, take a crease brush and apply Trickery into the crease, really giving a diffused look. Take more Temptress and apply it into the outer-v, and it can be winged or flared out a bit and connected down to the lower lash line. Go back and apply Temptress with a pencil brush along the upper and lower lash line again, which also can be winged or flared out. Highlight the brow bone and inner corner with Power Cut.

Review

For doing the actual Morphe Jaclyn Hill Eyeshadow Palette Collection review I wanted to make one big section, since a lot of what I need to say applies to all of the palettes. This helps to avoid redundancy.

First and foremost, each palette in the Jaclyn Hill palette vault contains 10 shades in a variety of mattes and shimmers. I find the quality to be consistent among each shade, and they are just as good as the large palettes. The mattes are smooth and buttery, never patchy or dry. You can use the shimmers wet or dry, but they are incredibly impactful dry. Everything is easy to blend, to build, and to work with.

The eyeshadows have a normal amount of kick up in the pan. Maybe it is the way I apply eyeshadow or I am just lucky, but I do not struggle much with fallout in general. Dark Magic did produce a lot of fall out on my nose, but you have to consider the heavy looks presented.

Dark Magic is my favorite palette! I would do your eye makeup first before complexion to avoid fallout issues. But, if you dig a good smokey eye, you need this palette hands down. It also has good shades for the crease and base, but a little shaky on highlighting. The black shade Temptress has the slightest amount of shimmer in the pan, really just specks, but you cannot see it on the eye. Blacks can be highly temperamental, but this one is perfect! It is a true, solid matte black.

Armed & Gorgeous contains perfect mustards, if that is your thing. If Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture let you down, I recommend giving this palette a try. It does not have a good base shade, but does have nice hues for the crease and to highlight.

Bling Boss has a decent crease shade and a highlight, but nothing for the base.

Ring the Alarm has no suitable base or highlight shades, but it does have several crease options.

Ultimately, this Morphe Jaclyn Hill Vault review points to the shadows making great gifts for eyeshadow/color lovers! You need these in your collection. They will not disappoint and make great companions to the large palettes. When you are gifting that makeup lover, be sure to supply some eyeshadow primer from my list of recommendations.

Conclusion

In summary of this Morphe Jaclyn Hill Eyeshadow Palette Collection review, much like the big palettes, these are worth having in your collection if you love color and high-quality pigments. Feel free to gift yourself or a loved one! You might have a hard time picking just one. Thank goodness The Vault option lets you snag all four palettes. All drama aside, if more palettes ever come out, I will be all over them. The price, pigmentation, application, and quality of these are just right. Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.
