The time has come for my final Play! unboxing of all time. This Play! by Sephora April 2020 review is very special, because Sephora is announcing that this is the last box, and the service is now over. Play! is being replaced by the Sephora Favorites line, which is not a subscription, nor is it a new offering, but it does enable to you purchase boxes of samples. While they do not plan on doing a subscription service in the future, they will be adding Favorites boxes more frequently, and they also want to offer two new lines in which there will be a $10 and a $15 dollar box. I may consider reviewing those from time to time, so if you are interested, please let me know in the comments.

The theme of this box is Class of 2020. It is a way of saying goodbye to Play! or a way of moving on. As a special bonus, this box also contains a sheet of Sephora stickers! Word on the street is that some ‘long time’ members received an extra sample. While my subscription dates back to 2016, all the way back to the time of being on a waitlist, I am not getting an extra sample. My first box was the July 2016 box. I have a link below if you would like to check it out for all the nostalgia. Time to cut the seal open for the last time.

Bareminerals Mineralist Lipstick in Honesty

The first product in this Play! by Sephora April 2020 review is Baremineral’s Mineralist Lipstick in the shade Honesty. This hue is lovely for spring, as it is in the rose family. I really enjoy lip colors from that color family! It claims to be a lip color and treatment in one, with the ability to smooth out your lips with zero dryness. The finish is satin, and the gold packaging is simple, yet luxe.

Benefit They’re Real Lengthening & Volumizing Mascara in Black

Second is Benefit’s They’re Real mascara. I cannot believe that this is my first sample ever of this iconic mascara, considering the fact that my Play! subscription dates back to 2016. It claims to provide visible lift, long wear, a base-to-tip curl, and dramatic length and volume. What more can you ask for in a mascara! The wand is made of a flexible silicone that is rather long.

Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Mega-Mushroom Relief & Resilience Soothing Treatment Lotion

Third is the Origins Mega-Mushroom Relief and Resilience Soothing Treatment Lotion. This is a repeat from the January 2020 box, which has me super bummed. This is a sample that takes a lot longer to use up than you may think! I am still working on my January bottle, and now I have another. It claims to reduce the look of redness, which I find to be true. But, it does not eliminate all redness. It is a clear liquid with the consistency of water, with an herbal or medicinal scent. The directions state to pat a grape-size amount onto clean skin in both the morning and in the evening. Be sure to shake it well first!

Shiseido Urban Environment Oil-Free UV Protector Broad Spectrum Face Sunscreen SPF 42

Fourth is Shiseido’s Urban Environment Oil-Free UV Protector. This is a facial sunscreen that claims it can also double as a primer because it should absorb excess sebum and leave a matte finish. You are to apply a dime-size amount 15 minutes before sun exposure, and it needs to be re-applied every two hours. The formula is white and runny. It does not have that typical sunscreen scent, but the scent is hard to describe.

Belif Moisturizing Eye Bomb

Fifth is Belif’s Moisturizing Eye Bomb. This is a repeat from the February 2018 box. I have never used a Belif product that I did not like, and that is true of this eye cream. It is a translucent white gel that is scented like their other products, which is fresh and clean. The best way I can describe it is that it is like a moisturizer for the under eyes that also brightens just a bit. It claims to moisturize and boost elasticity for up to 26 hours. You are to pat it onto your under eyes with your ring fingers until absorbed.

Kat Von D Beauty Studded Kiss Creme Lipstick in Lolita, Outlaw, and Vampira

The last item in this Play! by Sephora April 2020 review is a sampler of Kat Von D Beauty’s Studded Kiss Creme Lipsticks in Lolita, Outlaw, and Vampira. I am choosing not to swatch them so that they stay fresh until I am ready to wear them. I have the Lolita eyeshadow palette, and I am excited to wear this lipstick with it so that I can be all matchy-matchy! Lolita is a mauve pink, Outlaw is a true red, and Vampira is a dark and gothic burgundy. They claim to be highly pigmented, long-wearing, weightless, matte, and comfortable to wear.

Conclusion

We are at the end of this Play! by Sephora April 2020 review, which will be the final unboxing and review of all time. This box has two repeats, but overall I am excited to try the other products that are new to me. This final box is not a complete dud. I know that I frequently complain about these boxes, mainly because of repeats, but I will miss this service. Besides providing plenty of blog content for me, this box has enabled me to smell expensive without being expensive for years with fragrance samples, and it allows me to try products that I normally cannot afford. Are you sad about this subscription ending? Currently, I am not planning on joining another subscription box. I am using this as an opportunity to work on my backlog of samples and finish them up. Once the time is right, I may subscribe to another service. Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.

  1. Try reviewing the Ipsy box. I switched from the Playbix to Ipsy and have been much happier. No repeats and it’s rare that I get something in cheap packaging that can’t be resealed time keep it fresh and clean.

    1. Thank you for the suggestion, that sounds like a box that I would enjoy! I’m also considering the Allure box as it appears to contain similar brands to Sephora Play, with a comparable price tag. I’ll still be doing the Walmart Beauty Box.

    1. These are not too terrible, and far more impressive than in previous months! I’m trying to enjoy my somewhat subscription free life right now and the samples I have left lol
