For this Play! by Sephora November 2018 review, the holidays are definitely coming early because the theme is “Merry and Bright.” With this being said, the products contained in the box should be long-lasting for all of your holiday party needs. In addition, your makeup looks will sure to be “full of cheer.” By these descriptions alone it is challenging for me to decipher what may be in the box before opening it. I will cross my fingers for no repeats, rather, new products to have some fun with. Let’s cut the seal and dive right in.
As you may already know, each Play! box is supposed to contain five deluxe samples plus one bonus sample. In the November box Sephora has unfortunately “jipped” me because I only have four deluxe samples, and the included guide shows that I should have a Lancome moisturizer. While I surely do not need another moisturizer, I still deserve my money’s worth.
Commodity Gold
The first product in my Play! by Sephora November 2018 review is a fragrance by Commodity. Gold is described as an indulging scent that belongs in the warm and spicy family. The notes include bergamot, camphor, amber, oakmoss, and creamy musk. I must say that the sample packaging has caught my eye because it looks larger than normal and is not clear glass.
Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick in Pink Tea
A while ago I got a red version of this cream lip stain in a box. Since I have used it a lot, I will be able to give a full review. Do not be fooled by the small tube, this stuff never seems to run out! I even removed the stopper from my red tube and it just keeps going. This product performs well as a lightweight, matte liquid lipstick that is comfortable to wear, long-lasting, and non-drying on the lips. It provides a subtle, lasting stain and is full coverage in one swipe. Pink Tea is a beautiful hue and right up my alley for sure.
Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder
Next in the mix we have a repeat sample. While this setting powder definitely works, I hate the shaker-top design of this sample. The three holes make it difficult to get the product out. With my last sample I got pliers and removed the shaker top so that I could dip my sponge right in. I use this powder for baking my under-eye area to prevent creasing. The claims say this powder is silky sheer, lightweight, and long-lasting while absorbing oil. I believe that it does stand up to it’s claims.
Christophe Robin Cleansing Volumizing Paste with Pure Rassoul Clay and Rose Extracts
At first glance of this volumizing paste, I am thinking that it is a face mask. The name made me think maybe it is really a conditioner. Discovering this is a shampoo is a shock! The formula contains an exfoliant that feels gritty like a sugar lip scrub and is super thick. Because of this, I assume this product would work well for those with a dry scalp and/or dandruff. The directions state to apply a tablespoon into wet hair and work it into an airy foam, then rinse. Your color will be locked in with clay-to-foam technology that absorbs oils and impurities. It has a hefty rose scent.
Philosophy Purity Made Simple Cleanser
The final item in my Play! by Sephora November 2018 review is a facial cleanser by Philosophy. It touts that it is a one-step cleanser that tones, hydrates, and melts away makeup, oil, and dirt. You can wash your face with it both in the morning and evening by massaging a quarter-sized amount over the face for 60 seconds. The formula is a milky yellow and has a natural, plant-based smell.
To summarize my Play! by Sephora November 2018 review, I will say that only two products match the Merry and Bright theme. The matte lip color and translucent setting powder are great for holiday parties and all day wear, but I fail to see how the other items fit in the lineup. I must also mention the missing moisturizer. However, I will work diligently to use up these products and to appreciate each. What do you think about this box? Do you plan on trying any of these products out? Please let me know in the comments. Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.
