While a little black dress is a staple piece for any wardrobe, a classic red dress holds second place. You can even say that red is the new black! Red is a color that boosts confidence, and studies have shown that men find women more attractive when they wear red. In this blog post I am providing two examples on how to style a plain red dress. My outfits evidence that you do not need to wear anything complicated to look and feel your best. These looks are great for any occasion that you may have in the spring and summer, be it a date, a wedding, a graduation, and the list goes on. As always, you can shop similar pieces and steal my style.

Look #1: Red wrap dress

My first look on how to style a plain red dress features a stunning, yet affordable wrap dress. I envision this as the perfect date night outfit! Wrap dresses have the magical ability to compliment any body type and shape. You will look like a million bucks! With this outfit I am showcasing how lovely gold and cognac pair with red. The open neck area screams for a necklace. But, the earrings match the necklace so well, why not include them? A little extra bling for date night is never wrong! The cognac heels are perfectly dressy, but they also go well with the handbag. Do note the handbag has gold accents to compliment the jewelry.

Look #2: Red surplice dress

The second look on how to style a plain red dress is a loose style. The way that it zippers and ties in the back really does add extra charm. One thing that bothers me is how the surplice neckline wants to hang open. If that happens to you, try wearing a pretty pin or brooch to keep it shut. The gold heels were purchased for a special occasion, so this outfit is a great example of how to repurpose items you might otherwise never wear again. Leopard and gold work nicely with red, so the handbag provides an unexpected pop of print. You can go with any jewelry option under the sun, but I happened to find earrings in the exact shade of red to match the dress.

Conclusion

We are at the end of my two outfit look book on how to style a plain red dress. The final outfits are anything but plain once you thoughtfully accessorize. Consider adding in a fun print or a pop of color. Cognac, gold, and leopard always look good with red for instant style elevation. The next time you are shopping and about to add yet another black dress to your cart, think about switching it up with a red dress. Keep it simple and you will be sure to feel like a million bucks.

Are you convinced that red is the new black?
