elf Bite Size Eyeshadow Review

2020 is proving to be a good year for new products from elf cosmetics. Their line of eight Bite Size Eyeshadows are taking the internet by storm. I am definitely curious to see if they are worth the buy, and you may feel the same. Sometimes elf eyeshadow is hit or miss, but they always seem to get better with time. I am doing an elf Bite Size Eyeshadow review for you, featuring all of the palettes. I will give you detailed information on formula, swatches, eyeshadow looks, and more. By the end of this post you will know which shades, if any, you will want to add to your wish list.

General Comments

I am starting this elf Bite Size Eyeshadow review with general comments that apply to all eight of the palettes. First and foremost, the packaging on these palettes really reminds me of the mini Natasha Denona palettes, am I right?! I regret admitting I have not yet tried her formula, but with the quality of these shadows, elf is rivaling high-end brands, and perhaps even giving Natasha a run for her money!

Each palette is $3 for .12 oz or 3.5 g, which is completely a steal for the quality. All of the shades are available on elf’s website, and certain shades can be found in stores that carry elf products. elf is a cruelty free brand and none of the palettes contain phthalates, parabens, nonylphenol ethoxylates, triclosan, triclocarban, and hydroquinone.

Formula

The second topic in this elf Bite Size Eyeshadow review is the eyeshadow formulas. I am pleased to report that there is consistency between all of the palettes. There is no bad shade in any palette. Both the mattes and shimmers are buttery smooth to the point that they are nearly creamy, richly pigmented, and yield little to no fallout or kick up in the pan. Check out the swatches of the shimmers! They are foiled and intense. All of these shadows blend easily on the eye.

Color Stories

Third, I want to discuss color stories as part of this elf Bite Size Eyeshadow review. Each palette has its own theme going on, as denoted by the palette’s name. They are all lovely, but since my favorite color is lime green, I am partial to Hot Jalapeno. Acai You really makes my eyes pop! Carnival Candy is perhaps the most fun with that vibrant blue. There are so many ways to switch that palette up. Rose Water is another favorite of mine because it is great to wear when I am shooting outfit photos for the blog. The neutral shades complement any outfit, but the colors remind me of the best shades in Urban Decay’s Naked 3 palette.

While you can totally do a full look with each palette, or mix and match, sometimes having only four shades can be limiting. Not all of the palettes have a neutral shade for the crease, or a white shade to set the eyelid. Depending on how fancy you want to get with your eye look, you may supplement with other palettes. Either way, your creativity is your only limit as you can create endless looks with each palette.

A big selling point, to me, for eyeshadow palettes is variety in the color range. I want to be able to see on the eye that multiple colors are being used to create the look, rather than getting the illusion that one shade was applied all over the lid. You can look in the pans of Berry Bad and Acai You and see there is not much variation between the shades, which translates to the eyes. Pumpkin Pie sort of does this too, but not to the extent of the others. This fact is disappointing, but the palettes still have their time and place.

Swatches and Eye Looks

Now I am moving into swatches and eyeshadow looks with each palette. For the looks I am using all four colors on the eye in some way. You can clearly see what I mean with Acai You and Berry Bad with the color stories looking the same on the eye with little variation.

Berry Bad

Carnival Candy

The neutral shade matches my skin tone so it does not show up in the swatch.

Truffles

The shimmer shade is gorgeous on the eye and I am obsessed! I cannot get it to pick up on camera as well as it does in real life. These pictures do not do it justice.

Pumpkin Pie

Cream & Sugar

Hot Jalapeno

Rose Water

Acai You

Conclusion

In summary of this elf Bite Size Eyeshadow review, these tiny drugstore palettes rival high-end and are worthy of a spot in your collection. After all, they are so tiny, you can easily cram them into even a stuffed collection. These are, by far, the best quality eyeshadow that elf has put out, and I hope they will release more shades, plus continue this formula into future palettes. I give these my stamp of approval and an A+ rating. Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.
