It has been a hot minute since I have presented an elf haul! In fact, this elf haul 21 is the second haul of 2020. elf sales this year have not been the best. They have been low value on a selection of items. I miss the 50% off sales! Hopefully, in 2021 things will bounce back on the sale front. With this haul I am finally getting a chance to try a palette that I have wanted for a year, and other things that are fairly new. For the first time ever in an elf haul I am doing a full face of elf makeup look at the end of this post where I try out as many of these items as I can.

elf Face Erase/Cleansing Cloud in White

The first item in my elf haul 21 is the Face Erase in White. The package says “Face Erase” but online the name says “Cleansing Cloud.” Even weirder, only the white one was on sale. Anyway, this is a product that you wet and then use to remove your makeup. It can be washed by hand or in the washing machine, but you should air dry it as it has a cushiony filling. While I have not yet used this, it claims to remove all makeup, and I usually have success with those washable makeup remover cloths. I can see using one side for the face and the other for the eyes.

elf 100% Cruelty Free Pins

Second are four out of the five 100% Cruelty Free pins. The dog pin is currently sold out. I love wearing pins on my denim jacket, and these are perfect for that purpose, plus they are so stinking cute! Here are the ones that I have:

  • Hedgehog
  • Bunny
  • Cat
  • Sloth

elf Dewy Coconut Setting Mist

Third is the Dewy Coconut Setting Mist. I do not see this spray extending the wear of my makeup, but it does nicely set everything in place with a pleasant, but not overbearing, coconut scent. If you are expecting a super glowy and dewy face with this spray, then you will be disappointed. The level of dew is incredibly light and natural, which I personally like a lot with my combination skin.

elf Matte Setting Powder in Light

Fourth is the Matte Setting Powder in Light. I have not yet used this powder, but it does claim to mattify the skin with a soft-focus touch. Of course, the skin should also stay matte all day. elf’s packaging for loose powders is superb and I wish all brands would follow suit. The package features a rotating lid that prevents product from spilling out.

elf Halo Glow Setting Powder in Light

Fifth in this elf haul 21 is the Halo Glow Setting Powder in Light. This also has the rotating lid, but I have at least tried this one out. I find this powder to provide a light, natural, healthy glow. It does successfully set your makeup with a soft focus, but it does not blur. The foundation I wore it with can hold its own, but I do not believe this powder made it wear any longer or better. Overall, I do like this and I will use it all up.

elf Matte Putty Primer

Next is the Matte Putty Primer. I have not yet tried this, but based on my experience with the original and the luminous versions, I expect this product to work just as well. Naturally, it claims to give your makeup a long-lasting matte finish.

elf Luminous Putty Primer

Here is the Luminous Putty Primer. I can speak about this better since I have used it. It does leave the skin glowy for makeup application, as it contains a fine gold glitter. The skin ends up feeling slightly tacky when it dries. A faint amount of luminosity does show through the foundation. This product does nothing for my pores, but it does hold up and wear as well as the original Putty Primer. For a review on that product, do see the dedicated blog post below. This is not bad, and I will continue using it.

elf Srsly Satin Lipstick

Continuing on, I have a bunch of the Srsly Satin Lipsticks. In my collection I already have Cream and Nectar (not pictured here as they are not a part of this haul), because those are the only two shades that elf puts in stores. My intention here was to buy all of the remaining shades, but of course one was sold out. When I finally get all of the shades I do want to create a dedicated blog post.

These lipsticks feature a buildable to full-coverage formula that sets with a satin finish. They are comfortable on the lips and feel rather nourishing and soft. With careful eating and drinking, they hold up as well as any drugstore lipstick. I love the clear packaging! These lipsticks are awesome and I enjoy wearing them.

elf Sheer Slick Lipstick

Here are seven out of eight Sheer Slick Lipsticks. Again, one of the shades was sold out. That seems to be a running theme in this haul. When I can get that final shade I also want to do a dedicated post on these. As the name suggests, these lipsticks provide a sheer wash of color to the lips with a shiny formula. I have not yet worn these, but by the swatches, I expect them to feel light and moisturizing on the lips, but to wear off easily. Wild Peach is a curious shade! As you can see by the swatches, it is pretty much full coverage and not that sheer. I like the sheer jelly packaging on these.

When I see the color, package, and name of Black Cherry, my mind immediately goes to the cult-favorite Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey. I cannot be the only one, so let’s do some side-by-side action. Check this out- the elf bullet looks lighter in color than the Clinique bullet, but the opposite is true in the swatches. Clinique’s swatches slightly lighter than elf’s, but they are nearly identical in hue to the point where no one would know what is on your lips. The swatches feel the same and look the same in texture and shine. As I mention, I have not worn this formula yet from elf, but based on visuals and feel of the swatches, these are virtual dupes.

elf Primer Infused Shimmer Blush

Next in this elf haul 21 are three shades of Primer Infused Shimmer Blush. The Primer Infused Blush line is a personal favorite of mine, so I need to try these. Only three shades are currently in stock. I appreciate that the shimmer is mild. These apply and wear just as well as their matte counterparts, so I am obsessed and I cannot wait to get the other shades. You get pigment so quickly with these that you barely need to build them up at all.

elf Earth & Ocean Eyeshadow Palette

Pressing on, I have the Earth & Ocean Eyeshadow Palette. This palette features mattes, shimmers, metallics, and pressed glitter shades. If you look at the swatches, there is some inconsistencies in the formulas as some shades swatch better than others.

The color scheme is beautiful. You can do a blue, green, or a brown/gold look, or just go wild and create whatever look that you can dream up. A few notes on shades. While I do not keep a running list of my favorite eyeshadow shades, Underwater would be on it if I had one! I have to work with Oasis to build it up on the eye, but that seems to be a running issue with periwinkle eyeshadow. Be incredibly careful with Tundra! When I pressed my finger in to do the swatch, all of the product started to move in the pan! It is definitely a pressed glitter.

Overall, this is the typical quality that you get from the large format elf palettes and I am not disappointed. I ended up making a highly pigmented look with it, as you will see soon.

Go elfing Vote Shirt

The final item in this elf haul 21 is the “go elfing vote” shirt. I have never seen an elf shirt before, but sadly it is already gone from their website. On the chest this shirt says “go elfing vote,” while the the sleeve says “use your voice.” Please note that small printed shirts are always too big on me, so please do not use me as a model for size. I always buy a kids size, if available. I know that I will wear the heck out of this shirt around the house.

Makeup Look

To make this elf haul 21 complete, I am doing a full face of elf cosmetics, using as many products as I can from this haul. I can do so many things with the palette, but the blues are calling my name. This is like some sort of mermaid look, and I am here for it. I like the brown lip and blue eye combo. Pairing the dewy/luminous items with matte foundation is giving me a soft, gentle glow that is healthy and natural. The highlighter is popping!

A few things to make note of. I do not have any elf mascaras, as they are not my cup of tea. I am using the current mascara that I am trying to empty, plus my usual primer. Any time that I wear eyeshadow that is anything but matte I use the Nyx Glitter Primer.

For the eyeshadow look, start by setting the eyelid with the matte shade from the Best Friend Eyeshadow Duo. Next, apply Oasis in the crease and bring it down below the eye about half way. Then, deepen the crease with Abyss. Now, apply the Nyx Glitter Primer onto the eyelid only. Prepare to do a halo eye by applying Drip Drip onto the outer and inner part of the eyelid, leaving a blank space in the middle. Fill the middle space with Underwater. Using your finger, lightly tap a slight amount of Saltwater in the middle of Underwater. Line the lower lash line with Drip Drip and Underwater. Apply Lagoon in the inner corner, and highlight the brow bone with Sun Yourself.

Conclusion

To conclude this elf haul 21, everything that I have tried has worked out well for me! I am impressed by the swatches, and I do not expect any duds in this mix. I look forward to trying everything else! elf definitely needs to have sales more often. This year has been pretty drab for sales, which is why you are not seeing many elf hauls from me. As time rolls forward, I do want to create more focused posts on a particular line or product. Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.
