Maybe this Walmart Beauty Box Winter 2020 review will change my mind. Again, this box is arriving right at the end of the season rather than at the beginning, which is a major pain point to me. I can hear many products rattling around and there is some weight to the box. Time to add this review to the archive of my many Walmart unboxings.
Colgate Optic White Renewal
It claims to provide a high impact white by removing 10 years of yellow stains. The formula contains a high level of hydrogen peroxide that should whiten your teeth below the surface. This is white toothpaste with a peppermint smell. I drink coffee daily and I love iced tea, so I typically do not see results with whitening toothpaste, but I shall let you know.
Curel Dry Skin Therapy Hydra Silk Moisturizer
Having the word “moisturizer” in the name throws me off. Do you apply this to the face? What kind of lotion is it? In doing my research people use this as a body or hand lotion. It claims to absorb immediately, to be long-lasting, and to have no greasy residue. For the sake of this photo I am rubbing a small amount into my hand and I can confirm the fast absorption and no greasy residue. This is a translucent white cream with no fragrance or dye.
Herbal Essences bio renew Gentle Color Protection Birch Bark Extract Sulfate Free Shampoo and Conditioner
The claims are really interesting. Besides claiming to gently cleanse to protect your color and to moisturize, the packet reads, and I quote “help protect against what your hair gets used to over time.” Whatever that means! I find it hard to formulate an opinion after a single use of shampoo and conditioner, but I will try this right away.
Nyx Makeup Crew 2-piece set
Soft Matte Lip Cream and Soft Matte Metallic Lip Cream in California
Fourth is a box set from Nyx that contains two, full size tubes of their shade California. These definitely exceed the price of the box! I have a box set of 30 mini tubes from the Soft Matte Lip Cream line, so I am very familiar with that formula. The mattes are lightweight and comfortable on the lips, and the formula is buildable to medium coverage. I imagine, per the swatch, that the metallic matte line behaves the same. You can totally layer the metallic matte over the matte, but since they both have the same level of pigmentation, I do not think layering will make a visual difference.
Color Club Nail Lacquer in Made in the USA
This is a super dark yet glossy navy blue. I am a nail polish collector, so this sample has me jumping for joy. Besides that, it really adds value to the box. I have one lonely bottle of Color Club in my collection, so I know from experience that this is perfectly good nail polish, and I have no complaints.
These samples definitely surpass the value of the box, as they typically do. In researching these items I am perplexed to find out that Walmart is not carrying these exact products on their website, yet they send you these hoping you will repurchase. I’ve been reviewing them for years, but the quality of the boxes is far from what it used to be. Believe it or not but they actually used to arrive on time. Then they started giving me the same samples over and over. Needless to say, this box is much better. I contemplate cancelling every time lol.
