After everything we have gone through over the past year, I am sure I echo the sentiment of everyone when I say I cannot wait for real Spring to finally arrive more than ever. To usher in the new season in typical blog style, I have a top 12 list of Spring 2021 fashion trends. Admittedly, I am not overly excited by what we are seeing this season. Some trends are too overdone and simply will not die, while others are somewhat fresh. This may be good news for you because your closet might have some of these items already. A few trends have me cringing that they are making a comeback after many years. Either way, I have options that you can shop right now, as well as a color palette for the season.

Spring 2021 Fashion Trends

1) Woven Accents

woven accents

I am starting off this Spring 2021 fashion trends list with woven accents. We are seeing weaving primarily on handbags, but you can also find it on shoes and belts. The woven designs are normally quite large, and sometimes puffed out, which can be described as “bubble quilting.” Most of the weaves are made of a soft, leather-like material, rather than wicker or rattan.

2) Mini Skirts

Second is mini skirts. Now is the perfect time to break out your favorite denim mini skirt, or find one that incorporates other trends that we will discuss soon, such as pastel or florals. Sometimes mini skirts come as part of matching set. Having a mini skirt match a blazer or blouse is super chic. They provide the perfect opportunity to wear a tucked-in shirt or even a bodysuit for a put together style. I recommend experimenting with your mini skirts to create outfits that are dressed up or down.

3) Sandals with Cross Straps

Third is sandals with cross straps. We are seeing lots of strappy sandals this season, specifically with straps that diagonally cross over the top of the foot. Even if you do not have sandals with cross straps, any strappy shoe will do. What I love about strappy shoes is that they add so much interest and detail to any outfit that they are a must-have for sure. Look for sandals with flat bottoms or heels of any height to suit your personal preference.

4) Wrap Skirts

Fourth is wrap skirts. If mini skirts are not your jam, then wrap skirts will work their way into your heart, and your closet quickly. They are typically more comfortable, and modest, than mini skirts. Look for wrap skirts that feature flowing hems, feminine ruffles, and fun prints. They pair so beautifully with the above mentioned strappy sandals. Depending on the length of the skirt they can be highly versatile as temperatures fluctuate in the Spring.

5) Florals

florals

Fifth in this list of Spring 2021 fashion trends is florals. Florals for spring? What a novel idea, right?! Let’s face it, florals really never go out of style. This season in particular I am seeing daisy print a lot, which I recall was trendy back around 2015. By now I have purged nearly all of my daisy pieces, and I do not intend on purchasing more. If daisy is your thing then so be it, but I encourage you to expand your horizons and try all sorts of florals. Odds are you already have plenty in your closet, from shirts, to dresses, skirts, and more.

6) Wide Pants

wide pants

Continuing on is wide pants, and oversized pieces in general. I believe this trend is mostly driven by the work at home culture of the past year as we all gravitate toward comfort in our style. When I was in seventh and eighth grade “goucho” pants were totally in style, and just typing that word on my blog makes me nervous. The wide leg trend is bringing them back, as I have seen them at Walmart. I tend to avoid wide leg pants like the plague because I am so tiny they make my legs look big in an unflattering away. If you want to steer clear of the eighth grade goucho look, I recommend looking for tailored pants.

7) Cinching the Waist

cinching the waist

Next, it is all about cinching the waist this season. There are two ways that you can go about doing this. First, you can look for pieces that come already cinched because of an elastic waistband or an included belt. This commonly happens with tunics, rompers, and jumpsuits. Or, you can add a belt as a finishing touch. I love to grab a belt with a fun buckle and wear it over a dress or a jumpsuit. I recommend adding a few belts to your everyday collection in neutral colors, such as brown, black, taupe, and white.

8) Boyfriend Shirts

boyfriend shirts

Pressing on, consider a polished look this season with boyfriend shirts, as well as shirting in general. Oversized, buttoned-down blouses will have you looking instantly stylish, both for work and for every day. I would start with a white shirt and add it to your closet as a fashion staple, then collect from there. They look so great tucked into jeans. Add a belt for an extra special touch.

9) Sheer Pieces

sheer pieces

Next is sheer pieces. Anything that is sheer screams to be layered. Layering is the key to looking super stylish, and it is so easy to do. Try wearing a bralette or a bodysuit under a sheer blouse to get yourself started. A sheer skirt can be worn over shorts or a shorter skirt. Layer up to your heart’s desire and you are sure to get many compliments.

10) Jumpsuits

 jumpsuits

This trend is nothing new, which is jumpsuits and boiler suits. Boiler suits specifically were trending in Spring 2020 and they are back again. The best thing about jumpsuits is they favor transitional weather since they cover your legs. You can easily add a cardigan or kimono to cover your arms if need be. Aim for jumpsuits in spring hues, such as pastels, and even denim for good measure. You can cinch the waist with a belt if yours does not come pre-cinched.

11) Crop Tops

crop tops

How many times have we been able to call a crop top a trend? They never seem to go away, and they are honestly not my favorite piece of fashion. If you are comfortable with bearing your midriff, look for crop tops that are anything but boring. Try lace-ups, off-shoulder, ruched, or cinched styles. Really, the list goes on and on. They make a lovely pairing with your wide leg pants and strappy sandals.

12) Pastels

spring 20201 color palette

I am ending this list of Spring 2021 fashion trends as I always do with a color palette. This season is all about pastels, which is not a shock. Pastels are always acceptable for Spring, and they scream Easter. If you are bold, you might opt for some pastel pants. Not ready to take the dive? A simple pastel blouse is always a safe choice.

Conclusion

In summary of this list of the top 12 Spring 2021 fashion trends, this is really a battle of the trends that will not die versus fresh trends. You most likely already have some florals, belts, and jumpsuits in your closet. So, set your sights on some woven accents, strappy shoes, and maybe a pair of wide leg pants, and you will be good to go. One thing to point out here is how well these trends mesh. Sometimes trends are disjointed, but you can easily work many of them into one outfit for a cohesive look. I am excited to see what Summer will bring us. Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.
