The groundhog is predicting an early spring this year, and we are anxiously waiting to see if he is correct! If he is, then we can totally get out our spring 2020 fashion trends early as we bask in the gentle sun. This top 15 list will not disappoint because it actually contains new trends that we have not seen in past seasons! I believe that you will have some of these trends in your closet already, but some you may need to shop for to create a complete style. I am doing the hard work for you of researching trends and selecting pieces that you will love, while not breaking the bank. Time to begin.

Spring 2020 Fashion Trends

1. Puff Sleeves

puff sleeve trend for spring 2020

First in my list of spring 2020 fashion trends is puff sleeves. Gone are the days (for now) of form-fitting, tight sleeves. Puffs are super playful, and the bigger they are the more of a statement that they make. We are mainly seeing puff sleeves on shirts, and some dresses.

2. Florals

Second are florals. This is a trend that we see many times a year, but here in Spring 2020 it mainly presents as a small, continuous pattern. I get a lot of boho or flower child vibes from the floral patterns this season. Of course, there is nothing wrong with wearing any type of floral, and you probably already have some pieces in your closet. Time to dust them off and breathe new life into them. We are also seeing daisies come back into play, which I recall was trending when I was in college, perhaps in 2015 or so. I have purged almost everything daisy out of my closet, so of course it is coming back. I do not plan on buying new daisy pieces.

3. Minimal Graphics

The third trend is minimal graphics, which is finally a new trend. When I say minimal, I mean small designs that do not take up much real estate on the t-shirt, nor do the designs contain any loud colors. I like to pair this type of t-shirt with a pair of jeans and either a moto jacket or a denim jacket, and I even throw a belt in there for good measure.

4. Square Necklines

Fourth are square necklines. This is also a fresh trend in a world of repeats. Square necklines are simply pleasing to the eye because they divert from your usual v-neck or round collar, yet you do not feel pressured to wear something that is low cut. You can easily play up your square neckline with a necklace, or with other accessories that also contain squares.

5. Neon

neon trend for spring 2020

Number five in this list of spring 2020 fashion trends is neon. Neon did have its moment right at the end of spring 2019 and died out. But, it is back for a vengeance, and even beauty brands such as Urban Decay are jumping on the bandwagon with their Wired collection. The neon trend introduces a great opportunity to explore accessories like belts, handbags, and shoes. I am really digging the neon green moto jacket from Forever 21 below- I might have to pick that one up for a pop of color.

6. Utility/Workwear

utility workwear trend spring 2020

Next is utility or workwear inspired pieces. Basically, these pieces look like they are made to be part of a uniform for working in an industrial plant. I have already picked up my first boilersuit and a utility shirt, which I am super excited to style this season! If you like pants with lots of pockets, then utility pants may be the thing for you.

Shop the trend:

7. Front Tie or Cutouts

front tie cutout trend spring 2020

The next trend is a combination of tie fronts and cutouts. In most cases when a piece ties in the front, there is a section that still exposes your skin because it is cutout, but some pieces only have a tie for decoration. Tie fronts with cutouts are being seen mostly on jumpsuits and dresses, while ties only are being found on shirts.

Shop the trend:

8. Light Mustard

light mustard trend spring 2020

Mustard keeps lingering around from season to season, but in spring 2020 it gets a pastel upgrade. Light mustard is exactly what it sounds like- a lighter or more pastel version of the mustard color that you would wear in the fall or winter. I keep seeing this color mostly on shirts that are pinstriped or that feature a gingham print. But, you can incorporate light mustard into your aesthetic any way that you want.

Shop the trend:

9. Leopard & Denim

leopard and denim trend spring 2020

When is leopard not trending?! I own so much of it, so that is a good thing for me! Here in spring 2020 we are seeing a lot of match-ups between leopard and denim. This could be as basic as a leopard shirt worn with jeans, or maybe a chambray shirt styled with leopard ballet flats. However you decide to manage this trend, I am sure that you already have some leopard in your wardrobe to experiment with.

10. White

white trend spring 2020

Number 10 on this list of spring 2020 fashion trends is the color white. Looking crisp and clean in your best white feels super feminine this season. The options that you have to incorporate white into your looks are literally endless, but of course I have some suggestions to assist.

Shop the trend:

11. Tropical Prints

tropical prints trend spring 2020

Nothing screams spring, or summer, more than tropical or palm prints. I love paring all that green with gold jewelry, cognac shoes, and straw handbags. You always feel like you are on vacation wearing this print, which is an instant pick-me-up. We are seeing more tropical shirts, dresses, and rompers, than pants or accessories.

Shop the trend:

12. Midi Skirts

midi skirt trend spring 2020

Midi skirts are definitely a trend to get excited about due to their versatility. You can tuck a graphic t-shirt into them and look instantly chic (or pair them with a sweater if those winter chills linger). ‘Midi’ means that the skirt is too short to be considered maxi, but too long to be considered short. It is a great happy medium for those petite ladies such as myself. You can dress your midi skirt up or down, but whatever you decide to do, just do whatever makes you feel confident.

Shop the trend:

13. Polka Dots

polka dot trend spring 2020

If you are not a fan of wild prints and patterns, then you may want to give the polka dot trend a go! Polka dots are feminine and playful, and you can even pair them with different patterns for a mix and match style if you are daring. We are primarily seeing polka dots on shirts and dresses, but they will sneak up on you in other forms, even on shoes!

Shop the trend:

14. Wedge or Platform Sandals

platform wedge sandal trend spring 2020

Raise your hand if you break out your sandals as soon as you can, just like me! This season we are seeing a lot of sandals that have wedge heels, a platform sole, or those that are espadrille style. Most sandals actually are a combination of all three. Get ready to tower over the crowd with your platform sandals.

Shop the trend:

15. Sneakers

sneakers trend spring 2020

The last look in this list of spring 2020 fashion trends is sneakers. The majority of sneakers that we are seeing are wedge-style with a zipper closure, which is great for those that want to avoid the athletic shoe look as much as possible. You can also opt for sneakers that resemble Chuck Taylors and espadrilles.

Spring 2020 Color Palette

Now that we have gotten through the list, I want to provide a color palette guide to spring 2020. This is super helpful as you shop and dig through your own closet to pair pieces up.

Conclusion

We are at the end of this top 15 list of spring 2020 fashion trends. As I typically say, do not limit yourself to this list, rather, use it as an inspirational guide as you shop and create your own outfits. I am most excited for workwear, tie fronts, and leopard and denim. The color palette for this season will transition us right into Easter and straight out into summer. We can definitely appreciate that there are many trends this season that are finally new and that leave 2019 and 2018 in the dust. Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.

Which of these trends will you be rocking this season?
