The Aesthetic Edge

Play! by Sephora February 2020 Review

The theme of this Play! by Sephora February 2020 review is Beauty Soul Mates. We should have makeup, haircare, and skincare samples worth falling for. Some of the previous boxes have been lackluster in my opinion because of the high volume of repeat samples. Will Sephora crush it this time? Time to cut the seal of the box open and see what is going on.

Drybar Blonde Ale Brightening Shampoo and Conditioner

The first sample in this Play! by Sephora February 2020 review is a purple shampoo and conditioning duo. Drybar’s Blonde Ale Brightening Shampoo and Conditioner claims to enhance color, detangle, soften, hydrate, and to add shine and vibrancy to your hair. This is chosen for me because I highlight my hair. However, blue shampoo and conditioner is better for me than purple, since my base is brunette. I may not personally see results from this one-time use sample, but we shall see.

The use directions are pretty standard. The shampoo says to use it one to two times per week, while the conditioner mentions no restrictions. You should leave the conditioner on for one to five minutes to get the full effect.

Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream

Second is Peter Thomas Roth’s Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream. This moisturizer is a repeat from a 2017 box. It claims to leave your skin hydrated for 72 hours. You can apply it twice a day onto your clean face and neck. I vaguely remember this product, but I think it is lightweight and works fairly well. This is a good time to re-test it out.

Kat Von D Beauty Lock-it Setting Powder

Third is Kat Von D’s Lock-it Translucent Loose Setting Powder. I know that a lot of people adore this powder, but I have not yet tried it! I am excited to attempt baking with it, as well as full-face application. The claims are that it is weightless and shine free.

Yves Saint Laurent Tatouage Couture Liquid Matte Lip Stain in 5 Rosewood Gang

Fourth is my first ever Yves Saint Laurent beauty product- the Tatouage Couture Liquid Matte Lip Stain in 5 Rosewood Gang. It claims to be a highly pigmented lip stain with a lightweight, ultra-matte formula. Per my swatch you can see that this product stays shiny, but it is not glossy or sticky. Once the shiny ‘gloss’ wears off, a rich stain is left behind that is matte. This product smells like wine to me, but in a good way. I love this deep, mauve-rose hue and precision doefoot applicator.

Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Moisturizer

Fifth is Fresh’s Lotus Youth Preserve Moisturizer. It has that typical smell that all Fresh skincare products have, which is not my jam. It claims to fight dryness, uneven texture, and dullness while leaving behind a healthy glow. This off-white cream can be applied two times a day to clean skin.

Tarte Sea Water Foundation in 15N Fair Light Neutral

The last product in this Play! by Sephora February 2020 review is Tarte’s Sea Water Foundation in 15N Fair Light Neutral. I got this foundation in the October 2019 box. They keep sending me 15N which is way too dark for me. Honestly, I have not even used my other sample because of the poor color match and the dropper does not pick the product up. I will have to mix it into a foundation that is too light for me, but I do want to wear it on its own to see how it wears. Maybe if it has a stopper I can remove it and thus pour the foundation out to actually dispense it.

It claims to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles with a weightless and buildable formula. Since it is more of a serum foundation, I expect the coverage to be light. It does contain SPF and you need to shake it well before applying.

Conclusion

We are at the end of this Play! by Sephora February 2020 review. Sephora has somewhat redeemed themselves with this box. I am excited for four new samples out of six. Getting two moisturizers is not ideal. My fingers are crossed that one of these samples will be a winner for me. That Yves Saint Laurent lip stain is just plain gorgeous. Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.
