When the end of August rolls around each year we are always inundated with back to school festivities, whether or not we really want to think about school. In my Play! by Sephora August 2018 review Sephora is taking a note from our schooldays by giving us a “Beauty Schooled” theme. The products in the box are considered to be fundamentals, or building blocks that are fan-approved. It is hard for me to project what we are getting exactly in the box, but I am hoping for new goodies and no repeats. We should jump in before the school bell rings.
Ouai Volume Shampoo and Conditioner
The first sample in my Play! by Sephora August 2018 review is a foil packet pair of shampoo and conditioner by Ouai. I have actually tried this sample once in the past when I placed an Ouai order. While I am a major fan of Ouai, I do not think this duo did anything for my hair. However, I think that you are likely to get results with multiple uses, while this sample is only a one-time use. I will assume that standard directions apply for the shampoo and conditioner, but none are provided. The claims state that these products will add body, replenish moisture, nourish, cleanse, and energize.
Living Proof T.B.D Multi-Tasking Styler
I have never heard of a product that is meant to multitask as much as this styling cream by Living Proof. This cream can basically be used three different ways on damp or dry hair. It can be applied to damp hair prior to a blowout, or to dry hair as a frizz tamer or deconstructor for a wavy, tousled look. It is a white cream that has the same scent as any Living Proof product that I have ever tried.
Origins Original Skin Retexturizing Mask with Rose Clay
Next in my Play! by Sephora August 2018 review is clay mask from Origins, which comes in a pretty pink hue and contains exfoliating beads. The product smells like roses and is on the thicker side, which is typical of clay masks. It is supposed to reduce the look of pores, provide a radiant and youthful complexion, and smooth the skin. The directions state to apply a thin layer, or quarter-sized amount to clean skin and leave on for 10 minutes. Next, use wet fingers to massage the face to exfoliate, then rinse. This mask can be used one to two times per week.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel
While Sephora has put this brow gel in a Play! box already, it is hard for me to be disappointed by this repeat because of how awesome this product is. My brows are nothing short of unruly, especially closer to the tails. I can layer up the brow products and they still insist on sticking out in all directions and looking crazy, which bothers me. Out of all of the brow gels, mascaras, and taming products that I have tried, nothing works as well for me as this brow gel. It really does hold my brows in place all day without making them feel hard and crusty. I like that the formula is clear so that anyone can use it.
Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick in C211
The Artist Rouge lipsticks are intended to be highly pigmented with a smooth, satin finish. By the swatch I can say the lipstick lives up to the claims. The gorgeous rosy shade C211 provides full pigmentation in one creamy and smooth swipe with no tugging, and leaves a slightly shiny finish. An additional claim is that it provides hydration to the lips.
Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Matte Bronzer
The final product in my Play! by Sephora August 2018 review is one that I have been wanting to try forever. Hoola matte bronzer is by far a cult-favorite, and I can see why. The shade is sure to compliment a wide range of skin tones, including my fair skin. The formula is soft and buildable, making it easy to not overdo your bronze. My pan is not properly glued to the palette and has fallen out. Thankfully it did not break and I am able to glue it back into place.
We have reached the end of my Play! by Sephora August 2018 review, which means that we need to evaluate if the products pass or fail with the box’s theme. I am going to give them a pass on the exam. The products contained in the box are cult-favorites and/or foundational pieces to beauty routines. I am pleased with the lineup and variety of haircare, skincare, and makeup. While I do have one repeat, the product itself is one of my all-time favorites. What do you think about the box? Are you going to school this year, and if so, what grade or year are you in? Let me know in the comments. Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.
